Weird because that powdercoat looked like it was coming off pretty good on its own.

I've thoroughly enjoyed the complaints about squeaky leafs in the third gen section. People wanted to invoke lemon law over it. LMAO

I've been using white lithium grease and trying to shoot it in between the leafs.

I figured out how to fix it.

    It's called a coilover.

I have a friend with a lifted chevy 2500.... and he always talks shit about my less than a truck tacoma heh. So its time to take him on some trails and show him payload capacity wont help him over technical terrain. I want suggestions on a trail that 1. He might actually be able to go on, 2. something that isnt tooooo far away from everett area (I know nothing in the immediate area obviously) 3. But still technical enough so that he has a hard time heh heh. Forest service roads are just too easy for the most part, but it seems that its either easy forest roads or tight jeep trails, and not much in between.

Called Randy's off-road in Smokey Point today just to get an idea of what they would charge me to swap out the springs on my Icons and they tell me that they can't do it and I have to send them back to Icon to have them changed out or void my warranty (you mean the 1 year limited warranty on my 3 year old shocks?) o_O I told him since I am putting non-Icon Eibach springs on I am not too worried about the warranty anyway but after talking to him for a few minutes and him trying to quote it at 3.5-4 hours to replace the springs (just bringing in the coil overs off the truck for a spring swap) it became obvious that he had no idea what I was actually trying to have them do.

Guy then proceeds to tell me that he sends shocks down to Icon all the time for service... So you mean to tell me that you claim to be a full service off-road shop but don't service off-road shocks? Then he proceeds to argue with me when I tell him that they are no longer servicing shocks in house.

They only have about 35k miles at this point but I'm debating on if I have to risk life and limb to pull the springs myself would it be worth it to just service them myself while I am it instead of inevitably pulling everything apart to swap springs and then put it back together to have the shocks start leaking in a month and then need to take it all back apart. Or do I just leave them alone if they aren't leaking at this point and hope for the best.

Adjustable coilover? If so just do it yourself.

Guy sounds confused. Maybe try calling back and see if you get someone else?

Most of the shock companies recommend a rebuild at around the 30k mark. But plenty of people have gone longer than that. Icons you can rebuild yourself for ~150 (the rebuild kits are around 40 each, then the oil is around 50, then you need to get them charged).

Whether you do it or not is up to you really. The spring compressors you can rent can work but definitely be careful with them. Isnt to bad if you go slow.

I wouldn't be comfortable changing out springs on an adjustable coilover unless I had the big ass wall mount compressor. I would just let Mule do it.

Why put Eibach springs on Icon's by the way?

In my experience the ones you rent cannot fit between the body of the strut, and the spring.

TorFab has a wall-mounted compressor in Everett. I am sure many other places do too, but I don't know of anywhere up north.

I wish that guy on CL would have emailed me back about that spring compressor... Someone must have scooped it up fast. The task is so easy with the right tools.

Yeah, Icon adjustables. I've seen videos of people doing it using the screw clamp type spring compressors, does't look awful if you go slow and steady but I was going to see if I could just take them somewhere close that could do it on a big press for cheap.

I'm just trying to make it a quick swap out because my driveway is on a slope and I don't really want to jack the truck and put it on jackstands and it leave it in the driveway. I can do the work on the flat in the garage but I can't fit the truck all the way in and close the door. If I really have to I still have the stock coilovers that I can put back in just to roll the truck back into the driveway while I rebuild the shocks.

I could just take it to a shop and have them do it all but I'm cheap and like to play with my truck myself as much as possible.

@JDAM the Icon springs are actually made by Eibach but the non-Icon branded ones were like 60 bucks cheaper.

If you're getting them rebuilt look up Fluid Suspension Science. 10/10.

probably depends on the brand the store carries. I was curious with the ones the NAPA by me rented when I did my car's struts and they fit on the Icon's.

Definitely easier to just go somewhere and have them do it real fast though.

if you do it with the screw type, just keep tightening them one turn each at a time. Slow but itll work and be pretty safe.

The ones I bought work, but just barely. The safeties won't catch, but they don't hit the shock body. But yeah, go slow and keep both sides even.
