    Thanks! I knew it was a beefy winch system for dragging timber, but had no idea they're called that. Makes sense, though. I just was more curious on things like what year, the company, what project, are they often abandoned on-site...

    I doubt it since there aren't many shady spots and its been quite warm.

    Edit: Im talking about the top of becklar peak. The main FS road and most of the spur roads are clear of snow.

    I'm assuming you've been over there. It sort of loops around to Index via NF65 to Index-Galena Road--have you done that whole road? Were you just exploring?

    It used to but the road from hwy 2 to index washes out so often they stopped repairing it. Or at least last I heard they hadn't fixed it since the last washout a few years ago.
    I've been up there quite a bit but not this year yet.

    I see that it's closed on th NF map. Do they actually gate it shut, or can you still get on the road?
