On the air compressor situation, I got the el cheapo harbor freight one for about $70. First and only time I used it was on a Wilkeson trip. I am on factory Dunlop AT20s and I aired down to about 15 psi. I was able to air back up to 40 on all 4 tires but by that point, the motor must have tripped the thermal switch because it wouldn't turn back on. I haven't tried it again since then to find out. If you run larger than factory tires, that little pump won't work for long. Moral of the story, spend the extra money to get a better compressor.

BTW, to all on the trip today, when I came across Snoqualamie pass yesterday, I didn't stop at the summit, but on i90, the road was dry. Looks like going to Stevens pass is your better bet.

I would love to get in on this deal, however I want a new gun more than sliders. If the sale was going on after I get a new gun, and I still have money left, I could probably even use my shop as a delivery point since it is a business. Unfortunately, I don't expect to get a gun until after the sale is over. I have the LCA skids on my truck now and I have enjoyed abusing them.

If somebody wants to gift a set of sliders to me, I am onboard for that...but I'm not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen.

On another note, I am working on a super heavy duty custom front bumper for my truck. I will probably have to go through a professional company to get it all put together. It all depends on my ability to snag a piece of steel from work. It is 3/8" sidewalls on about a 4"x12" structural boxed steel. It probably weighs about 150-200 lbs. I asked the general contractor about it and he said they had a little more structure to finish and if it was still around after that, I could have it. I could mount a winch directly onto this thing, once I drill a few holes. Good thing I have a few drill bits I don't mind burning up.

Yeah the little compressors have a duty cycle. Even my ARB has a 50% DC. I think the lower cost ones have like a 30% DC.

Shoot! For some reason was not subbed to this thread, I was in Monroe this morning, if I would have known (and didn't get called into work) I would have shot down just to meet everyone and scope out the rigs. Have a safe trip!

Hoping you all made it out.. Good news is it's going to be warm tomorrow. I

Not to sound like a broken nerdy record, but it might be a good idea for at least one person to think about some alternative communication, i.e. HAM. Had a conversation between myself up in Deming and Issaquah, clear as a cell phone conversation @ 120 Miles. Especially as the weather is getting colder, and the shitty weather is approaching. Because you really are screwed when shit hits the fan and no one has cell reception.

Attempted to push all the way through FS38 this morning, no go. Let my buddy call it; he doesn't have a winch and was the lead vehicle. Made it up to 3,000 feet though, snow depth of about 12". It rained at the lower elevation last night, and really consolidated the snow up to that point. Progress got slow once we got to that thin crust/slick powder stuff.. Definitely would like to try again.

Heading to Colockum next weekend to try and break through from Wanatchee.

Awesome views of Baker and the Twin Peaks.

CBs are great for chatting amongst a group of rigs, but that's about it.. Still an awesome thing to have when everyone else has one, and really great to have on a long road trip. Should have recorded some of the banter between Mipawlus's and I on our trip out to Bozeman..

Those handhelds max out at 5 Watts. Great if you're in town near a repeater. Not so much if you're in between two mountains and need to reach out. I'd save your money and go with an in-vehicle radio.

$200 for antenna/coax/radio will get you into a completely capable setup.

Of course it all has to be coordinated before.. but if one of these guys had a radio they could talk to me up here via a repeater. Something like "Okay I'll check in with you at 1600 and let you know how we're doing.."

I dunno.. I approach going out in these conditions, or any kind of conditions alone/with a group all about risk assessment.. The best thing you can do is attempt to mitigate those risks by being prepared. Just like that gun, a radio is just another tool to have in your quiver.

    Rant over.

It's on the to-do list still, but I have a VHF radio that needs installing first, four FEMA classes to slog through, and I need to find training for both first aid and CPR.
