Before I gave up trying to weld, I burned the entire skeg off an outboard motor made of metal of undetermined origin ( supposedly aluminum) trying to put the tip back on, so I feel ur pain.

And some clarification is in order:

I am not questioning your welding skills as I have seen photos and they look good. No offense or shade tossed your way.

The "that was really lame" was me throwing myself under the jeep in a foul attempt to type with sort of street creds.

An unusually high amount of pinstriping.
Skip the spring and you wont have any issues with it hitting the windshield. Fiberglass antenna's can take a lot of brush before they break.

I've bounced mine off of serious limbs at 15-20mph

Edit: actually kinda surprised it's lasted this long. I do stop and take it off to go under low hanging things that I can stop in time for.

It really is surprising. Twenty years running around the woods on some really overgrown roads and I have only broke one antenna. I usually have them up close to the cab and I'm thinking that's what has saved them. The one that broke was mounted closer to the front. I don't really take it off even for low hanging things just because I'm to lazy to get out of the truck. The one time that comes to mind that I should have taken it off was driving onto the ferry out of Seattle. The thing hit off of every beam and it rang through out the boat. To the point just about everyone was watching me as I drove down. Needless to say, I took it off for getting off the ferry.

Bullshit. Give me some leathers and earplugs, and I'll sit there and gouge all day long, happy as a clam.

Want a job then lol? Granted normal carbon arcing isn't to bad, but all ours is done with heat controls, lead controls, cadmium controls, ect so not just leathers and earplugs but respirators and shit too in confined spaces.
