That's an absurd price for even a remain. A pull should be way cheaper. Even a reman should only be in the 3-4k. Less if you can find just a shortblock

Yeah, I've found a few sources online for $2800 reman long blocks. Gonna start pulling the old one on Friday.

 

Just take that money and get a new truck dude!

It may be worth calling the bank. I've heard rumors of some banks working with you towards the repairs (cost sharing, pausing loan payments etc) They want to protect the value of the collateral as long as you owe money on it

 

Sad dude. Did you not change the oil or something?

 

I change the oil every 5k. Was at just under 5800 since I've been busy. Didn' think stretching it another 800miles would throw a rod. Oil level should have been good. Checked it 3wks ago when it was at 5k, I added 1/2qt to bring it up to full. Since I've owned the truck it's used about 1/2qt between oil changes.

Never seen it that black tho. Something else must be fucked. I'll see once it's out of the truck I guess.

Best guess is exhaust valve / seat. Bout the only thing would make it that black

 

Black and milky at all? Seen that before with really black milky oil. Head gasket goes, coolant gets in a cylinder and then hdyrolocks a cylinder and can cause castrophic failure. Actually just happened to Cleetus McFarland on YouTube with a gt500 motor.

People always forget having to mate transmissions, exhausts, ecu, sensors, ect in swaps. Sure a 350 is cheap, but won't mate to Toyota transmission without an adapter. Then having to do different wiring and ecu if doing efi. I'd bet the cost would actually be right up with a reman swap.

 

Depends on if you have a donor rig. Ls with a 4l60 or 80e’s are super cheap. You could probably get a runner for less than 2k. Shoehorning it in would be a different story.

Yuuuup. A chunk of block moving at the speed of fucking fast could have wacked the line to the cooler. I'll be able to see more on Friday when I get it off the trailer and hopefully get both the engine and transmission out this weekend. Gonna swap the replacement transmission and that FJ/t4r case in at the same time.
