I’m not 21. I tried picking up a lower today but could not buy anything classified as “other”. Only long guns for me. Or 80%.

Apparently I’m a second rate citizen and can’t be trusted. No but seriously I’m just barely not old enough. So I would have to wait until November of 2019 to get my CPL. I’m sure by then I’ll have to jump through another damn hoop.

Go check out Palmetto State Armory. They have some AR's as low as $450-$500. You'll have to pay Use Tax (10.0%, equal to sales tax) though, so figure $500-550.
    https://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15/pa-15-rifles.html

This is a great deal on a rifle with some extra features:
    https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa...ghtweight-m-lok-classic-rifle-5165450254.html

PM me and I'll hook you up on the transfer side of things.....

Here's an interesting tidbit about I-1639.
1.) Beginning 1/1/2019, those under 21 can't buy "semi automatic assault rifles." No other part of I-1639 goes into effect until 7/1/19.
2.) Beginning 7/1/2019, the definition of "semi automatic assault rifles" goes into effect.

See the "loophole" here? From 1/1/19 to 6/30/19, there is no such thing as a "semi automatic assault rifle." That means those individuals 18-20 years old can still buy all the ARs and semi autos they want, since they are still just "rifles" at that point. They don't become "semi automatic assault rifles" until 7/1/19. But most gun shops aren't going to risk it.....

Prices can range from $500 for a basic AR, into the thousands for designer AR's from noveske or lwrc etc.. I've owned a Rock River LAR15, and had no complaints about it. I've now got an M&P AR10 and it's a decent platform to build off of. One friend has an older Colt and it's seen a lot of use but is still solid for being 15yrs old. Another friend who I'd consider a bit of a gun snob, has several LWRC AR's and they're nice and all but for the price tag they carry, they still do the same thing a gun half the price will do.

After this goes into effect, my waterfowl shotgun will become an “assault rifle”. How Did this become a thing?

The palmetto state armory AR's are pretty good so thats the route i'd go. Once you have it you can change out literally everything. Swap uppers, triggers, stocks, ect. Only thing you can't do is make it a pistol without going the SBR route.

My first AR upper was a PSA and it shoots great. Or did i havent touched it in a few years since i built the mk12 mod 0

It was voted out on this past November as Initiative 1639. Did you not vote?

Doesn’t impact shotguns, just rifles. Semi auto shotguns are still just “shotguns” and not impacted by 1639, yet. The upcoming legislative session is likely to be even worse for gun rights.....

Thanks for the info guys. I’m not trying to get out of paying $400-$500. You gotta pay to play. $400 right before Christmas when you’ve got other expenses is a bit of a gut punch though. I should probably just man up and buy one but the girlfriend won’t be happy for a few days. :bananadead:

I work for a CNC shop so the process is not that foreign to me. But I do not have metal milling equipment. We work mostly with wood.

I voted. I’m more saying how did we get to this point. And my fault for assuming that since you can shoot a rifled slug from a shotgun, and pull the plug out, they wouldn’t tack that on as an “assult rifle” too

It's what happens when an industry has a problem it refuses to acknowledge and fails to regulate itself, and instead gets regulated by people who know nothing about it but have an ax to grind.

wait a second, how come @CBenfell can't buy a lower but can buy a full rifle or 80%?

Also, what is to stop us from buying out of state after 7/1/19?

man those PSA sales are great right now and they keep sending me emails and I keep ordering stuff. Just trying to figure out how much scope to put on a 20" barrel shooting 77gr. I'll try a Vortex HS-T 4-16x44 for now and make a decision. That scope was originally going to go on a Rem 700 which is sitting around naked right now.

What the fuck? What "problem" do you think the industry has, refuses to acknowledge, and self-regulate?

Even funnier is that you think that would somehow appease the anti-gunners and prevent further restrictions.

Since 1968, only "long guns" may be purchased by those 18-20. Lowers are NOT rifles, they are simply "receivers" and are classified as "Other" on the 4473. Anything that ticks the "Handgun" or "Other" box is restricted to those age 21 and over. That includes suppressors, AOWs, SBRs, shockwaves, "pistol grip only" shotguns, receivers, frames, etc.

Federal law allows you to buy long guns out of state, provided the sale complies with the laws of your state of residence and the state in which you are purchasing. CA residents can't buy "assault weapons" in Nevada for example, because they aren't legal for sale in CA. So if someone 18-20 wants to buy an AR in Oregon, it has to be a "legal" sale in both states. As it wouldn't be a legal sale in WA for those 18-20, they can't do that.

As for those over 21, buying a "semi automatic assault rifle" out of state is a big gray area past 7/1/2019, but is likely to be disallowed due to the requirements for purchase in WA.
