Mmmmm...snow...reminds me of home... :) Where real men use the hand brake to corner and an inch of snow was tackled in sneakers.

Do you have an knob that adjusts lumbar? If yes, you need the lumbar option.
Does your passenger seat fold flat and become a table? If yes, you need the passenger fold flat option.

They say don't use above 5mph due to handling issues. Really, don't ENGAGE it above 5mph. The sudden traction difference can cause an accident.

I bet they love you ;)

    WAIT WAIT WAIT.
    Let's break this down.
    1. Don't use 4x4 just because there's adverse pavement conditions. 4x4 is not a magic bullet and is rarely needed until there is sufficiently bad conditions. I have never seen rain be bad enough, for instance. On snow and ice, this can be helpful, but if you can see the pavement, that's not enough snow to worry about.
    2. Put 4x4 on sooner than later. Engage it only under controlled conditions so the change in traction doesn't cause an accident. If you KNOW you are under conditions that warrant additional traction, turn on 4HI, or possibly 4LO. If you are offroad, it is possible that you can encounter a stuck situation and not be able to engage your 4x4 system - it sometimes involves moving forward or backward, turning the wheels... if you can't move, you have removed options! 2WD also leads to torn up trails from excessive wheel slip (which means trail closures from abuse), and it causes extra stress on your truck.
    3. To make things more compicated, DON'T engage all of your traction devices immediately just because you have them (ATRAC, diff lockers, etc). They should be engaged at points where you know 4LO may not be sufficient, or when you are indeed in a stuck condition. HOWEVER, they can also make you more stuck. Plan your stuck assessment carefully and carry out the plan in a controlled manner. Re-assess the situation periodically to determine if your plan works, or you need a new plan.

If anything I'm saying seems like new information or it is confusing, CONGRATULATIONS! We all start here! Maybe you have bad habits! In any case, it's time to learn, and I'm constantly learning more as well! If you feel in need of additional help, ask away. If you want real life experience, there's several of us that can help out to get you started. If you want to REALLY learn, I can point you to a class! It may cost money, but it costs less in the long run when you are confident, and you exude that confidence on the trail - less stucks, less broken parts, and greater ability to tackle the scenario at hand.

I'm guessing she engaged it while driving. This would lead to a sudden change in traction, which would cause unexpected response like you describe.

    Got to love ARB..

I called asking for an Air Locker Warning Sticker, and this showed up in the mail today..

    Anyone want one?

Edit: You may have to prove you have an air locker, though...

    Almost ready, Kolt!

Getting frame plates bent up tomorrow; the local shop by me closes at 15:30, and I got shorted a foot on my flat stock material... so today was a no go.

I don't think that I can do any sort of offering in the vendors section - although, I do have the time to make a few more sets, for anyone interested. Send me a PM and we can talk about options..

Going to try FS37 & FS3310 out by Glacier tomorrow, hopefully there will be some white stuff out there..

Evan's Creek isn't far from you. There should be some good FS roads up there.

I wouldn't go there by yourself. I wouldn't go there in the winter period. Not through the ORV gates at least. I'd only go in summer or fall as a group. Don't be afraid to jack your rig up.

Jake, keep the design handy from those sliders you are working on for Kolt. When I have some money, I would like to get some sliders from you.

Just thought id post this. Me and a buddy went up Fs Road 62 outside of Goldbar today. If anyone has been up there we made a left at the split to go to the upper part. About 8-10 inches of snow up there (I know doesn't look like it, had to take pics with iphone) but it was up past my axle. Found a good size frozen waterfall, and no one had been up there since the snow many weeks ago, had to make our own tire tracks. Sorry if the pictures are sideways, they don't show up sideways on my computer but for some reason they do on here.

Yup. My friend that I went with has a Gen 1 tacoma but the check engine light came on so we didn't want to risk it up there. Ran my tires at 35psi and still went through the snow like a hot knife through butter :D

Classes? Locally? I am in Seattle and quite willing to take classes. I think the first step is to learn under direction of those more skilled. I have been on a couple of trips and a little overwhelmed and not wanting to hold others back.

Classes are a great idea and if you could post some links or PM me the details I would be very grateful!!

    Thanks!!

I had seen some threads about Christmas and lights on our Tacoma's! So I stopped by the local Fred Meyer and Ace Hardware to get some battery operated lights and then some snow! Lights were easier to find than snow - on a short jaunt - but managed to be happy with a couple.

So - Merry Christmas to All!!!

    :)

Have a wonderful holiday season and safe new year!!
