Can't you just wire a guerilla outlet in a street light post? How do people charge their Teslas and e-bikes in Seattle? Any electric car charging stations at work?

    :tinfoilhat: here we go again

After Sept 30 the sale of Baofengs are supposed to be banned. There is varying and confusing info about it. Sounds like the FCC doesn't like radios that have both FRS and licensed frequencies. Other info says the FCC just doesn't like their marketing. I even heard some conspiracy theory that higher end Japanese radio companies pushed to get cheap Chinese stuff banned

Edit: I posted on a site asking someone to prove it and got this reply

"Here is the official notice from the FCC: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-18-980A1.pdf

And here is the citation issued to Baofeng: https://docs.fcc.gov/public/attachments/DA-18-801A1.pdf

Lastly, here is an article that spells it out, in laymen’s terms: https://hackaday.com/2018/09/25/buy...cowls-at-unauthorized-frequency-transmitters/"

Now why did you have to go and post that?
Despite my suspicions of these ultra cheep radios shipped in from a Communist country, I went and ordered one. I figure for $25 it's disposable if need be.

Crap! ordered another one. Time to work on that license (and no, I will not transmit until license received).

The ARRL website will list the exam dates in your area. Find an app or book to study and when you are ready, take the exam. There is a small time frame from successfully passing to actually receiving the license.
    To my understanding.

Edit. Looks like the website has all necessary study material as well. There is an exam in my area for Nov. 17th. I'm going to try take mine then.

Afaik you can RX on any frequency programed but legally can't TX, on anything outside the 27mhz CB band.

I was looking at buying one of the truck mounted units, but a handheld would probably be all I would need and 1/4 the price.

You can't use any of the armature radio allocated frequencies without a license. From what I see there may be an issue using other channels due to output wattage exceeding 2 watts. Although, I doubt you would have an issue with this.
    Just need to know wh
From what I am seeing, probably not. Power output exceeds the limit for GMRS. From what I gather, and the way things a written, the radio itself (being that it transmits on both non-licensed and licensed frequencies) will be illegal. I plan on carefully programming mine to stay within the authorized frequencies and turn off to where necessary. At the very least, they will be great to have for emergency use.

looks like you can use FRS frequencies with no license and these radios can use them.
