Interesting idea, but that's still about 10 or better, still really big. Also, depending on how long we take, group 2 may not get to go. If we were doing a 2 day trip, that would be a great idea, though.

I'm letting the rest of you sort out what you wanna do, but that would be ideal. Run the other group clockwise, and last group will need to be staggered.

I've tried being the grand party planner at a few of the annual TSF runs, and I've figured out that it's best for me to handle my group, and the rest can step up and take on their groups. Sounds like a jerk move for me to make some of you fend for yourselves, but really, I have tried in the past and it gets too overwhelming without an excellent pre-plan and a solid knowledge of all the other people. I end up stressed out and it passes on to making my group's experience tiring instead of fun. The other groups get bored with me juggling, and it either resolves itself or ends in a late start.

For my group, experienced members need to have solid front and rear recovery points with suitable tires for offroad use. The reason for this is that I don't want to cut any corners when a recovery is needed.

That's a definite. This is still winter, which is the slow season up here. Save now and get prepped for summer. Evans, Naches, Liberty, TSF, maybe some sand, Surprise Lake...

I apologize. My sarcasm, smartassery, self-deprecating/effacing humor once again fails translation on the internet. My truck is indeed a stick. My first. As such, offroad experience with it is very limited and still scared to damage it.

Anyway, count me out. Saves me money. Saves the group a truck on trail. Hopefully I'll catch up with all you guys on a future trip. I expect to see lots of pics.

You could still ride shotgun with somebody else. Matt (13greysled) I think is flying solo in his truck. There should be some extra seats if you want to join. My backseat is not condusive (access cab = sprayed on back seats), I already have a copilot, and I am not meeting in Kent.

I've been lurking in here; and I'm not going to be going.. Just put 7,500 miles on my rig in 3 weeks..

But those are all good points, Mike. Just wanted to throw out some suggestions - as a few of these have happened to me.

This is a huge group potentially going out there, don't want to see any fuck-ups come out of it as a result.

    - Develop some sort of cut-off time, check-in time for the final list of people that will be going. Something like:

"Okay, text me at 20:00 the night before the meet to confirm you'll be going. If I don't hear from you, I'm assuming you won't be there."

This came from a trip I did out to Central WA a few months ago. We spent an hour waiting at the trailhead for someone that said they were going to go a week before, and we never heard otherwise.. Big waste of our time waiting.

Next time; don't post your pertinent details (Time/Date/Meetup) for everyone to see. The people that are interested will receive a PM with the details. I rarely post up about any trips I'll be making, but if I do that's how I go about distributing the important stuff... Gotta remember - this is a public forum. I only posted up details publicly once, and ended up with a couple of dudes that I didn't even know showing up. Being that the details were public, I couldn't turn them away. Plus, it gives whoever is organizing this a better idea of how many bodies will be out there..

If there's a fuck up, you've gotta have a plan.

Dunno how the cell service is out there; if there isn't any - there has to be an alternative way to reach out. Sorry, CB isn't going to do dick.

If you decide to split into groups, I'd highly suggest planting at least one person with a CB in each group. That way, you can stay in touch. Otherwise, it'll be madness.

Please, please, please coordinate recoveries. Just because you've got a winch and fancy shackles means jack shit if you don't know how to work it, or don't understand what can happen when things break. Ensure people are out of the danger areas, and that there is a clear plan as to what the objective is going to be. It would be really shitty for someone to get hurt out there.

Remember. It's a public forum. Anyone can read this/view pictures, and they may not be as friendly to off road vehicles as this community is. Any pictures of going of trail, scarring trees, or asshattery can quite possibly serve as further ammo for getting areas like this closed permanently.

Here's a good one from a friend of mine, spent a weekend in Central WA with him:

"Understand that this is not a sight seeing trip
Understand that this is potentially a very difficult attempt to push a few vehicles through some potentially very foul weather and terrain.
Each time I've done this before there was the potential for vehicle damage and of course injury and freezing to death in the hills. I fully expect that will be the case again, which in itself is a reason I long to do it every year.
Wives, children and dogs are welcome if they can hold there liquor, do what they're told and not get in the way. If I have to spend my one weekend in the hills looking for your lost child/dog/spouse, you will find me to be one unbelievably difficult person."

I know Tahuya is pretty tame.. But there's gotta be a leader, and there's gotta be a plan.

Perhaps I've already passed the point of no return with regards to not sounding like a dick; I'm not! Just don't want to see anyone get hurt, pissed off or dissauded from being a member of this group.

    Carry on.

    I'm out.

Another thing to think of is, who all wants to do the hill climb, rock garden, and the puddle ledge/drop near the rock garden? (Not talking about mud lake)

Those are the only 3 larger obstacles I can remember?

Call me a greedy new by if you want, but I have never done tahuya before and this will be my last run with anybody on this side of the state for a long time. I want to at least look at all the obstacles and upon seeing them, and feeling confident that my truck can make it through, take a run at it.

Given the difficulty in logistics please remove me from the maybe list. This did look like a lot of fun and an easier trail that I probably could've handled but from the description it did seem to me a rather narrow space for that amount of trucks.

If the weather is nice I think I might head down Mt. Rainer way - if not before because Friday looks like it might be nice again. Also, I have reserved a spot in a Bill Burke Basic Class in September and think I might get some additional skill/confidence after that -- it was a good idea and suggested by someone here!

I will keep an eye for future meetups on easier trails, meet-n-eats or the talked about camping where I can bring my trailer and hang out.

I am sure everyone will have a blast and I look forward to lots of pics!! Stay safe!!!

Its 6am and reading this thread makes me want to have a cocktail and start getting nekked. Yes, I'm ready for Tahuya.

Spent part of yesterday afternoon removing my front seat and washing my Wet Okoles after our wonderful dog took a dump and a piss on it. They work amazingly well at blocking fecal matter and urine from your seats. I'm sure you were all interested in that.

Lol. Says the person running 35's. I'm game for the hill climb at a minimum! Sounds like we are going to own the place this Sunday.

    Nice work scouting Aztecs :)

Tahuya is easy but lets not be mistaken, there are a few tight spots and some areas you can make it difficult as you want. There's always potential to get in trouble in the mud pit as well. Lets stay safe and have a good time. Looking forward to meeting and seeing folks.

I can testify to the rears being somewhat resilient to drunk girl piss.

That's one thing that I hoped I'd never be saying.

    It was fucked.

    Have fun guys!!

Well id love to get my truck out on the trail, but if need be, Id be fine with riding along since like Mike said, most ppl have DC and can carry more ppl.

I like jeverich idea with the different groups depending on what obstacles ppl want to go through.

Eh, see my Build Thread sig link. Too many mods to list.
Chicken is one of my favorite foods, so...wait a sec...that could be taken wrong. :D

I know I'm fully in the inexperienced category, but if you still have a spot in your group, I'd like to place my request to be considered. Thanks.
