I believe walkie talkies and CBs are completely different frequencies. A baofeng can function as a walkie talkie but not a CB.

I’m far from an expert. But Baofengs run on 2m and 70cm frequencies, and CB is like 11m, so not possible at all.

I haven't been over in that area in a few months, but i'm guessing gallagher is a long way from being reachable. I barely made it past the beginning VanEpps on memorial day weekend a couple years ago...

correct, I've sent some people instructions on how to program all the FRS/GMRS channels into the radio using the CHIRP software. Pretty easy. But I have not successfully got the privacy/CTCSS codes to work. Some of us were up in the snow one day and we could hear another group using Motorola's on channel 7 but we couldn't talk back to them. Still trying to figure that out.

    plug radio into usb port
    launch CHIRP software
    Radio menu>Download from radio
File menu>Open Stock Config>US FRS and GMRS Channels
    Radio menu>Upload to radio

    that's it!

I have used my baofeng to send/receive walkie talkie signals. Weird situation a couple weeks back, a friend of mine also has a baofeng and could get his to send on channel 8 but could receive, my baofeng would receive but not send on channel 8. Then we tried another channel, I think 6 or 7 and it was more of the same. Then we tried channel 5 and all baofengs and walkies could send\receive. Not sure what was up with that but was nice to find a solution out on the trail.

I need to order one of those programming cables...thought mine came with one but i guess i ordered the wrong package.

Where do go up there? I've hunted quite a bit up there and never had a problem, a minivan could make it to the top without issue. Am I missing something?

I take it back. It's 6 feet, except that there's running water underneath that melts 2 feet between the ground and the actual snow. So you drive on it and suddenly an abyss opens up beneath you and you're hood deep in heavy slush. Sleds most likely aren't going to either of those spots this month either.

You can drop buy and use my programming cable too. Also if you punch in 151.940 you can hear us at 7pm each night. You can join in the convo if you want. We all use callsigns. I'm JDAM of course.

until I figure out the Privacy Code/CTCSS thing the walkie talkies need to have that set to 0. If it's anything else that's when you can hear them but they can't hear you. If two baofengs are being used the CTCSS needs the be the same on both.

https://www.walkietalkiecentral.com/walkie-talkie-privacy-codes/ it's not really private lol

here are the frequencies for CTCSS and the Baofeng will roll through those in the menu. But I just haven't gotten it to actually work. Maybe some HAM's here can help?

hmmm I don't really like spring snow like that. I do want to get out of this house though.

I got a friend who wants to go fishing bad. I'm like it's all closed. He said well we'd be breaking the rules anyways by going to a lake. If you break fishing regulations can't they make you ineligible to fish the next year too?
