Guess if you ever want to add sound deadener in your floor or add wiring, now's the time.

Good call. That can help for when Ben gets the paddle tires to make his truck a mud runner

Went for a snow run up Lone Tree on Saturday near Mt. Adams about 20 miles south of Randle/Packwood... snow was fresh but was really wet and heavy and made for real slow going. Around 4500-5000ft it got a little more dry and fluffy and forward progress got a bit easier. Stayed up on the mountain sledding and standing round the fire till about 8pm and then made the long drive back to Seattle. Some of the best snow for wheelin that I've been in all year. My dad came out and brought his home built aluminum Jeep.

When you say Barlow pass do you mean the Mountain loop highway? Or one of the off shoots? mountain loop doesnt get very high. It would be nice to get close to 4K. I see a couple of the off shoots get to 3k.

There is also Beckler creek and Tonga ridge up highway 2.

If up for a drive there is Baker Lake

Is mountain loop highway even dirt? From my quick search most of it seemed paved?

Some of you have explored here... :

    Worthwhile?

Mtn. Loop Highway is paved to Barlow Pass, beyond there it's dirt/gravel. It's covered with snow so it doesn't matter. According to the F.S. website side roads are open such as the 4060 to Coal Lake.

The south side of hwy 2 up FS 6830 is Tonga Ridge... definitely worth going with good snow. That's where the last TW snow run was. Also the north side of hwy 2 up FS 65/Beckler Rd to FS 6520 would make for a decent run. I might be going snow camping Friday night... but if I don't I'd be in for a snow run on Sunday.

here's a couple more pics from the run I went on Saturday

My job gives me a rotating schedule. My second p/t job likes to lock up my weekends when possible, so most of my days off are during the week.

Let me know when you have a day in mind!

I've been up Tonga ridge several times in my Jeep, loads of fun!!

Mountain loop is dirt for about 14 miles and is fun when we have good snow at the 1500 foot range. I've come in from the Darlington side and gotten into a few feet of snow, but that is when we had some good low snow.

I thought Packwood was further south? What is shown on the map is Tonga and Beckler?

    Feb 9th Snow run

    Date: the 9th

    Time: morning (8:00-9:00?)

    Location:?

    People going:

Packwood is much further south... I was thrown off for a second too by what the search bar said compared to what the map was showing.

I hiked Monte Cristo (Ghost Town) off Highway 92, which turns north to become Mountain Loop Highway, and it is paved up to the "parking lot" for the Monte Cristo hike. That is where it really starts to turn north as well. Top off your gas in Granite Falls if going that route and consider bringing a gas can with extra to be safe.

If you start to get stuck, there will probably be no reception to make a call or get internet, but I will PM my number to you one or 2 of you as an emergency contact. I currently am living about 20 minutes from Granite Falls.

6520 goes up to Johnson Ridge. I was up there this past summer & thought at the time - this would make for a great snow run. It has wider roads and less roadside cliffs. Some good lookout spots as well.

I typically have Sun, Mon, Tues off; so I usually miss the Sat runs. It would be great to get a weekday crew together. I'm tied up for the next few weeks though - my work schedule is crazy right now.
