I was the same my first few times out, then I bought an unused dual from a local member. Mounted a 2gal tank where the spare tire goes and Jim made me a mount for behind the grill.

I saw a picture of a Ranger with a winch mounted there, I wish I could find it again cause it was badass. Air tank isn't a bad idea either. There's a lot of room there

My rear bumper is designed to hold a winch. I had one, but after pricing out the run of cable from the battery to the back bumper, I sold it to @Usethe2nd.

I hear You there. I bought 16’ of marine dual wire 8ga to feed the fridge today.... I didn’t see any gold when I was stripping the wires even though I thought I had for sure bought gold for what they charged me.

When a winch can draw 300+ amps at max load, I was looking at 1/0 and 2/0 welding lead for that long of a run and then I stopped. I probably could have gotten away with grounding the winch to the frame close by, but everything I read said it should be ran back to the battery so that doubled the price.

Is that the high clearance he's gonna be unloading when he gets the flatbed built? Just looked up 0/1/2/4 gauge battery wire pricing. Holy chit you weren't wrong. Even with a wholesale account it was about $150

Edit: nervermind, I assume now you meant sold the winch

No, originally I was going to run that HC bumper Jim built but with a new born at the time and after pricing out wire, I had to back out. My bumper on the truck currently is the road armor stealth, it's pretty burly and the winch mounts right behind the plate. Since I've got a welder now, I've been thinking about trimming and modding it to be a hybrid HC, maybe add a swing out.

Oh whoa. Is there room still for the spare there as well? Assuming you didn't have an air tank of course

Also, no offense but that fits like shit. Body lift?

Still room for a spare, I had one in there before I got air. I went to 33s and no matching spare and so far :fingerscrossed: haven't needed a spare yet. A slow leak here or there but that's what the oba is for.

Yeah body lift for the FJ case. I haven't adjusted it at all, and they didn't do a very good job reinstalling it after the frame swap either. It hasn't bothered me too much, but it's definitely noticeable. I've also banged it into a lot of shit so it might not be parallel to the universe anymore.

Decided to make my winch free spool lever more accessible. I'll clean up the welds and give it some paint in the day light tomorrow.

You don’t need a body lift for an FJ xfer case conversion o_O

Eh I did. The shifter was binding up on the cab floor where it comes out of the top of the case. I kept the j shift pattern instead of doing twin sticks. I could have massaged the floor to allow full range of movement for the shifter, but :notsure:

Are your cab mounts just totally worn out? That looks like minimal clearance and even so I’d rather massage the sheet metal there some than body lift but maybe that’s just me

There wasn't even a 1/2" clearance there. Yeah they're pretty wore-tf-out. I'm fine with an inch BL, if it needed more than that I'd have massaged it with a BFH like I did the pinch weld in the front fenderwell.

well that didn’t take long to convince the ol lady you needed a fridge! That sucker looks big enough to hide a body in!

@TimberTiger sent me an IG pic of a group that made it to the lake this week.
