Change out the drive train, axles, and link it instead of leafs and it will. Course one could say that about any platform really. Least his being a 45 it'll be a unique ride that'll get lots of attention

There's actually a SAR guy in Sultan with a ls swapped and link fj40.

The newer gen maybe? But up till 2012 I'm pretty sure they were still drum?

Oh well shiiiiit, now I see why there's a difference in the dorman complete shafts then.

How come no one's swapped a t4r rear under a Tacoma? Oh wait :frusty:, because they're coil sprung not leaf. I should have realized that they where all disc rear 4th gen +. :bananadead:

It's not too terribly hard to torch off the coil perches and weld on some leaf perches.... :welder::anonymous:

I don't need another project, I'm still trying to wrap up the ones I've started. :bananadead:

@drr helped me pull my axle and reassemble the drum but he has a LC rear axle on leafs too. If having rear discs helped with braking I would swap them but for the cash getting a big brake kit up front makes way more sense.

I hope whoever decided to put a 2 piece driveshaft in Tacomas gets rectal cancer

I honestly dont mind the factory 2 piece in mine, as its smooth as butter since Im basically stock height in the rear. I have a 1 piece I swap in when I wheel since it actually has more clearance at ride height and is thicker than tinfoil

How would a 1 piece have more clearance? That’s the only positive of a 2 piece is it sits tighter to the body of the truck

Yeah I just put some new leafs on and I vibrate at 25 with shims and doubled up shims and I vibrate at take off without any shims. I’m very close to just getting a 1 piece driveshaft

With my truck the way it sits at ride height and the pinion angle it has, the carrier bearing is actually lower than the direct tcase to pinion line. So with a 1 piece, it actually sits higher up, especially if the rear sees any compression and when it also sees axle wrap which points the pinion further up. I had to cut the center of the carrier bearing crossmember out since the 1 piece tucks up almost to the cab

Well no wonder it’s so smooth it’s practically straight. My angle is pretty bad with a 3 inch lift in the back and 2 inch in the front. 59235387-EDCF-490A-BE24-F9B93C995561.jpg

Welp so far I've made it to where my rear diff started howling a year ago and no issues. Currently stretching my legs at the Schrag rest area off I90 just west of Ritzville.

I averaged 12.5mpg to Thorpe fruit stand from north bend. Current fuel level shows just above half a tank, and I've traveled 85.2 miles. :bananadead:
