If not looking for challenging you can check out Wilkinson. That was a nice run in Sept. It isn't difficult at all.

I've been up there a couple of times... I honestly don't think it's worth the drive for most folks. After not too far you're going up a very steep, very exposed grade that I am 90% would be fatal if someone slipped off.

Another option could be something off of Hwy 2? A friend and I did some exploring outside of Startup earlier in the year. I think with some snow it could be a good time.

That's really all I can think off this side of the mountains. Unless we want to catch a ferry to the south sound or something.

I remember SeattleCOug getting into some good snow last year on his way over the pass... Where was that at, Mark?

I wasn't meaning to do the shit your pants part of the climb. That's the final .2 miles of a 12 mile trail.

I was thinking about going up Sultan Basin road up to the lake but I just heard that road got washed out yesterday, really want to explore it now.. Other than that FS 62 doesn't go high enough unless we get some low snow, but I also thought about Beckler road outside of Skykomish. I PM'ed SeattleCoug to see if he remembers what road it was. You open for the 17th Alex?

Someone should talk to the ranger station to see if this will work. Sounds fun if possible.
If we can't why not do this one?

You tent guys don't spend enough time in bear country. First time you have a 500 pound black bear fishing around with a paw through a hole he just chewed in the side of that thing you'll wish you had something a little more sturdy.

I buy a bear tag every year. I only shoot the ones that try to eat me or a family member. Twice in my short life I have had to do that. It's not that I don't like hunting or something, I just don't enjoy bear meat as well as venison or elk. I also leave them alone if they leave me alone, and if that means I donate the contents of a cooler on occasion...well it's just a bear being a bear and me being a bad camper. Still, no tents for me. I'd rather be in the back of the pickup or have some sort of barrier to at least give me time to wake up and get rounds on target before I hear my own bones crunching.

It has been my experience that some of them are indeed. Most run when they see you, or when your dog barks. Some don't. If you had been with me when I killed the last two you would agree. Ever had them charging under 5 yards with their jaws popping making a "woof" noise?
