Yeah. We were supposed to meet some friends. They failed to check out the ferry schedule, coming from the north end. They didn't make it. So we went with the kiddo.

 

My weekend was filled with Moab Prep. Leaving early tomorrow morning!! Hopefully I don't break anything so I can make it to the gallegher trip on the 6th!

 

I hike. However I'm going to Gallaher Lake on the 6th.

 

Wow installing hubs is easy. I did the passenger side today and I bet I can do the driver side in 2 hours

 

Are you talking about hub bearings? I have to replace one and was quoted almost $400.

 

Order it from BamaToy. Bring it over to one of our places. I'm at about 90 minutes for a bearing now

I would rather pay BamaToy and some adult beverages than to pay $1k to Auburn Offroad again... grrrr

 

Just out of curiosity how bad is it to continue to drive on a bearing that needs replacing?

 

That's where I bought mine.
I took a bit of extra time because I put the tin dust cover on wrong about 3 times and had to finagle with the caliper.

Did this on a 2nd. Unfortunately the parts do not fit 1st gens. According to BamaToy:

I don't think he's going to do that considering he's in Florida, he's making $175 per hub, and he doesn't do installs
That price Auburn charged is about standard from what I was reading. My buddy's Dodge was $800 for the parts alone (work done by Firestone).


For anyone attempting to do this:

You will want to have the following tools that you might not have BEFORE beginning. This is not a complete list of what you will need, but just some uncommon things that lead to success.

1. Impact wrench ( works fantastically for me, it's just bulky)
2. 35mm impact socket for hub nut (this is a very rare tool, so either find a specialty tool shop or order online)
   
3. Torque wrench that can go up to whatever the torque is for the hub nut, I think it's 180? I REALLY need to get one since my Craftsman maxes at 150 so I'm a bit under-torque
   
4. 14mm crowfoot wrench and an socket extension. You will use this to remove/torque the hub bolts
5. Breaker bar (another Harbor Freight purchase since it's a pretty basic tool)
6. prybar with a fairly sharp point (I used something identical to this. Use this to pry off the hub with a few moderate hammer blows.

 

Your tires will wear unevenly
You lose some mpg
suspension wear
Worst case is the wheel declares freedom and passes you up on the freeway

 

The first three don't sound like deal breakers. The last one would be quite bad. I will be sorting it out soon but I just wanted to know what I was really looking at if I put a few more miles on it first.

 

Don't forget some bearing noise, if the KM2s don't make enough now...
The "sound" came from what I thought was the left side.... it was actually the right side.

Saw this on the way back from Leavenworth...would be nice to own a big-rig, and be able to haul a few trucks to/from the trail heads

Yeah I've had one sitting on the coffee table. I really hate the idea of Olympia Toyota looking at my truck, but maybe they've gotten better in the past 4 years.

 

Mine hasn't had the gas pedal recall done yet, and still waiting to see what they do about the rear leaf packs. I'm sure if I take it in to Michaels for the frame inspection they'll want to chop my gas pedal too. I might just take the pedal off when I go in and put it back on after. They letter says I have until 3/16 to have any repairs done.
