You could try Jeff out at Badland Bumpers.

It says on his website he does custom sheet metal work, maybe he'd do wheel tubbing as well.

Installed the newly-released Garmin BC30 (wireless backup camera) tonight. It automatically displays the camera view when I put the truck in reverse. Pretty nifty little setup!

Pretty awful! Oh well, it's spring time now, so I'm on to mountain biking, hiking and camping.

At least they're doing a stellar deal for next year's season passes. I've already ordered mine.

Thanks! I do rub just slightly on the frame at full lock and when turning under heavy articulation. Not bad though, really. One of the things I do need to do is get a larger hammer and work on that pinch weld -- see if I can move it back any further.

What's your opinion of the power difference between the sc and 7th and just the 4.88's. I have a sc right now but might have to sell this summer and I'm thinking of trying to pick up 4.88's to make up the difference. I know it won't be the same but is it bearable going from the sc to just 4.88's?

I've heard that its pretty hard to run highway speeds comfortably with 4.88's

Is that 2nd gens or 1st? I know the 2nd gens are geared higher usually from factory, but my 4runner came with 4.30's from factory so it's not that big of a jump.

There's a noticeable drop in get up and go when going from S/C to regeared only. That being said, the 4.88s are still pretty nice. Down low, the extra grunt of the gears is sweet. Did a 3500 mile trip fully loaded (5600 lbs curb weight) down to southern Utah and back in February and had really no problems. Going 80-85 through Utah and Idaho.

I'm turning about 2500 rpms at 70mph. Maybe on the 2nd gen's 4.88s aren't good for highway, but on my first-gen with 285s and an auto transmission, 4.88s are money.

Oh really? Didn't know that. 2nd gens come with 3.73 gears from the factory so it's quite a jump for us. People have said 4.10's are perfect for 285's for 2nd gens

Awesome, thanks for the insight. I may have to go this route and will probably just go with 4.88's then to make up some of the power I'd lose. I hated it with stock power.

Yeah as David said, 4.88's are perfect for 1st gens and not as big of a jump as 3.73 to 4.88.

Rebuilt my rear seat platform yesterday afternoon. It was just on the passenger side, but I wanted to go full-width since I never carry passengers back there anyways.

Version 2.0 is split down the middle and has three front supports to hold the weight. Used 3/4" plywood and then indoor/outdoor carpet rolled over the edge and stapled. Each side is 25 1/2" x 20". That allows enough space for the carpet, etc. It's a snug fit, but not too tight. Each support leg is made from pre-threaded galvanized steel pipe, a 1/2" floor flange and a 1/2" cap. Just find the correct length for the pre-threaded rod for the height you want. The middle support flange spans both halves but is only attached to the driver's side so the passenger side can easily be removed. I'm more in-and-out of the passenger side compartments so it made sense for me to make the passenger side the first one to be removed. YMMV.

A couple light-duty U-bolts threaded through the plywood serve as my anchors for the turnbuckles.

Total cost was $80 (I had to buy a full sheet of 3/4" plywood). Not bad

Nice build man! You have a lot of things on your rig I have planned for mine. Including the soft brackets on the pack rack for your shovel and axe. Keep up the cool pics.

Thank you, sir! I love the building process almost as much as using it! It can be pretty fun working through the challenges to make sure the solution meets all the obvious and not-so-obvious requirements.

Your rig is nice man, very well put together. Provides a lot of good ideas and inspiration. I've had mine for about 10 months, about to pay it off and then start some mods!!!

Thank you, sir! Enjoy the build -- sounds like you've got your priorities right on your build. Pay it off and then it's play time!
