starting to get a good group of rigs together in the area...we me up with some more locals up north of Montpelier for some winter wheeling sunday..

on the topic of tires...the STT Pros did great in the snow/hardpack/ice that we saw on the trail...very happy with the tire now seeing the range and winter abilities they have

also, the winter tires that we picked up for Kayla's FJ, Yokohama Geolander I/T GO72, kicked some serious ass as well

    and more of the crew..

not seen are neil and his 2nd gen 4Runner, and rick (mule) and his jeep on 36s

most of the trail wasn't too difficult..some hills and descents were made a little tricky for some due to the ice...but there were a few fun obstacles that gave most a run for their money...

first obstacle had a slick approach that was anything but flat across which liked to throw you around...the driver's right line (kayla and i took this) climbed ledge off camber, but with a locker allowed you to crawl versus hit with speed to get through the icy climb like most others had to take on drivers left...

kayla and i made quick work on the right line and missed photo ops on our trucks...we didn't put on much of a "show" on most obstacles as we crawled up and over without issues..oh well

so after the first approach most had to zig zag their ways over to the right side then kick it hard left to go up and around a good size "wall" on the right...

for those open/open on street'ish tires, they needed a little help...luckily jordan was eager to try out his new warn zeon mounted on his pelfreybilt front bumper he just got installed :D
    [IMG]

then there was the fun line that rob, austin, kayla and myself took on the right...rob and austin are open, but with some convincing they got up...

then you have kayla and myself who showed everyone the benefits of a locker and how you can make the climb in a controlled manner :D
    [IMG]

so that was the big obstacle...there was one more side obstacle that i got a pic of..a few different lines on it..right easy, middle bit harder and left was a steeper ledge which needed good approach and clearance
    [IMG]

the final obstacle was just past deb (silver fj) on the left...left was the easy line..right was harder and center was the hardest..kayla and i crawled the right lines just fine while mule took center and made me wish i went there instead haha...next time
    [IMG]

all and all, great day and felt great getting out on the trail again...everyone needed it

Pretty sure he already said they are great tires. I've heard nothing but good about them.
Just pull the trigger, I'm sure you won't be dissatisfied.

sounds like you already want them...

try to find reasons why you should not buy them...

do you have another tire in mind?

I wanted the wrangler mtr, but a guy in the shop across from me that does car part distribution said they were being discontinued. I just really want to make sure the cooper has a decent enough sidewall for when I sit down but I think I'm going to talk to him when he gets back and order a set in the dirty fives

Mix of sloppy mud and some rock, no snow and no rocks like Moab.

why the big concern over sidewall?

you talking MTR with a 2 ply poly + 1 ply kevlar vs STT Pro 3 ply armortek carcass

unless you're heavy in the rocks and other terrain where sidewall abuse is heavy, i think you're over-analyzing between the two...

Bob is right about the Cooper. It really is a solid tire. The STT has been very underrated for a long time. The Pro just perfected the design.

If you're concerned about a rough ride with that thick carcass look at the Cooper MTP
