Hello all, I am a new member and this is my first post. I have found lots of helpful info on this site. I have run into a problem and haven't found a definitive answer for this yet. Ive even called the local toyota dealership with no answer yet. I am asking for a friend regarding the the ring that is located on oil pickup tube on the timing chain cover on a 2006 tacoma 4.0. The timing chain cover was removed and the o ring was replaced. Was not able to get the oem o ring but found one that is so close to it in size that it should work. The timing chain cover was reinstalled with proper gasket material in all proper locations. The upper oil pan was not removed and timing chain cover came off with ease.
The two locater bolts were also removed after first attempt to install timing chain cover were unsuccessful because the o ring on oil pickup tube was pushed out of place even though it was put in place with a thin film of adhesive.
Second attempt the cover went on without problems so that's when the gasket material was applied and timing chain cover was installed. The engine is still not completely together as he's like advice on how to check if the o ring is properly sealed without having to start engine. Is there a procedure that will allow this to be performed?
Also does anyone have the part numbers for the proper o rings that seal the mating surfaces of the oil tube to the oil pan and the oil tube to block?
Also when the timing cover was off oil had leaked out of oil pump. Does he need to prime oil pump before starting and if so what is the proper procedure for doing this.

Also, the o ring that seals the oil pickup tube between the timing chain cover and oil pan he removed was flattened out. I'm guessing that a new one should be round. Is this correct?

First of all, welcome to the forum!

Please tell your friend that trying to do such things without the correct "O" Rings will lead to problems....like doing the entire timing cover over, and over, ....

Here are all the O Rings and seals:
    - Timing Cover Front Main Seal: 11310-0P030
    - O Ring for Oil Strainer Pick Up: 96722-24030
    - O Ring Gasket, Oil Pump Cover Outlet to Oil Pump Tube: 15119-31050
    - O Ring Gasket, Oil Pump Tube to Timing Cover: 15188-31050
    - O Ring Gasket, Oil Pump Cover to Block: 15193-31010
