Hello ladies and gents. Check engine light came on yesterday evening and took it to Auto zone this morning for diagnostics and it showed a Code P0031.......Heated 0xygen Sensor (bank 1 sensor 1) Heater circuit low code. How many sensors are on the vehicle and if more than one how exactly do you know which one to get? I guess the Chilton or Haynes manual would (Maybe) tell more in this regard. I need to pick one up .

If you put 'P0031' into the search and specify for this forum, you'll see a few threads addressing your questions.
You can also do a Google search for this code as well and find quite a bit of info.
I imagine you have the VA, if your truck has the TRD package. The bank 1 sensor 1 is the O2 sensor before the catalytic convertor and sensor 2 refers to the sensor after the cat. A general rule of thumb is to replace them both after you have in fact verified that one (or both) of them is faulty.

actually after the fact I googled that code and found some illustrations and stuff that echoed what you just stated. First though, I put oxygen sensors in the search engine here and it i saw some things but not in detail. Appreciate the reply. So far I know the at the auto parts stores i've heard $117 and $138. Rock auto has it, and I'm assuming that particular sensor is the upstream sensor since it's further up on the exhaust and the one further down would be the downstream :).................... Rock auto has one (Denso) , well the $113 shipped so I'd be better off going to the parts stores but I believe the 2 I've called said they'd have to order it also. I do have a military discount to get it a little cheaper than the $117 also.

Also I hope it's easy to get to and change for me

Figure out just what is wrong first!!

It is the complete sensor 1 Bank circuit changing the sensor may very well not fix your problem.

Did you mean to say " If " it's the complete circuit or were you stating that it was lol?

only bank 1 sensors 1 and 2 on these trucks. op needs pre cat sensor.

well if its just the heating element in the sensor thats failed it should still work but take a longer warm up period.

Oops, yeah, that's what I meant. Bank 1, sensor 1 and sensor 2. I'll edit above, so someone doesn't get incorrect info. Thanks

Also OP, check the wiring and connections to the sensors. This isn't usually the problem, but it's not unheard of.

What would be the symptoms of transmission slip?

High trans temps, particals in oil, and the feeling of the clutch slipping. Usually when shifting in higher gears.

What makes you think tranny is slipping?

Well I'll have the truck for about well I bought it in January of 15 so yr in a half ish and probably about a year ago I was pulling a small horse trailer with one horse and I remember the RPMs wanting to just at normal driving and idling RPM's wanted to kind of hunt a little bit maybe went from about 2000 to about 25 or 3000 for a little bit came back down. I haven't really haven't had that issue and I Revisited the hole that really I need a V8 to pull a horse trailer which I don't often do I was just getting a new horse that one particular time. Anyway I think I noticed it last week and the truck is not even an everyday driver driving on the weekends mostly but I know that one day last week it was Idling driving about 2000 RPMs and it hunted for a little bit or maybe a few maybe a minute or so.

Are the A/F ratio sensors and the O2 sensor the same thing? It appears it is and it's the same part number. Just navigating some different areas online and it's pulling up as the A/F ratio on some, with the same part number as the 02 other places.

Yeah, I think they're the same. Amazon has the OEM sensors for like 50 bucks each, last time I checked.

I guess some would rather have the Peace of Mind of getting from a store to which it's easy to just carry right carry right back if there's a problem. But I normally are always check the reviews online and the sellers rank percentages and all of that stuff
