Well this will be my first trip report/write up so well see how things go...

Couple weeks of planning prior had led to a group of five to make the trek across the mojave desert (laughlin --> Barstow) via Mojave road. @eon_blue (will be stealing some of your pics for this) @Andybear @Mike likes Tacos @Kens04Taco

We all met up at a gas station on the cajon pass at 7:30 sharp... ish

Me and Andy drove to the meet up spot while ryan, ken, and mike drove together to the meet spot. Cold winds and overcast skies promised a chilly weekend ahead. After we had all filled up, the trek to laughlin began, only about 3 1/2 hours ash but a head wind made everything fun With the rigs all loaded up they didn’t seem to like the wind and constantly fighting the wind pushing you off the road got quick rather quick.

Once we arrived to the AVI casino gas station (laughlin) we got gas, picked up some beef jerky, flipped on the radios and headed to the trail head. The adventure had begun.

We drove about half a mile into a wash and parked along the hill side to get a quick lineup pick while also airing down.

From there we got to eat Mikes roost all the way until the next stopping point. The desert scenery was amazing, cruising through the hills, washes, and trees was unlike I had ever done before really.

The different shades of the dirt in the hills popped out and grabbed your attention while driving.. getting some interference over the radio we decided to stop and change channels. This is when I noticed my rear shock leaking, the shock had moved and hit a fitting on my rear shock bracket causing the nut to loosen up just barely causing a little oil leaking out. A quick trail fix with zip ties fixed it for the rest of the trip (fixed officially now).

Continuing on and many jokes over the comms later we reached the turnoff for ford piute, cruising along the very rocky road we finally reached the old fort. It was used to house mail riders and made for a good spot out of the wind to catch our breathe and relax for a few minutes.

Hopping back into the rigs we backtracked to the main Mojave road trail and continued on, starting to look for a place too call home for the night. After traversing the little washed out road we found our camp for the night, it was on the top of a hill in a plateau kind of area with a wind break. We rushed to set up camp before nightfall and before the temperatures plummeted. The forecast predicted mid 20s and some wind. The wind is what made it much worse, my zero degree bag, thermal clothing, and buddy heater made short work of the cold but some others weren’t as comfy That night on the menu was bacon wrapped steaks and carne asada tacos.

The next morning we brushed the ice off everything and thawed out for our next big day ahead. For breakfast we cooked our half frozen eggs, ham, and bacon. Searching for water that wasn’t all frozen. We left for that days drive about 9am. Everyone was eager to turn their heaters on and get on with the day.

The next stop was the bus.

On the way there we past a lowered mazda who had gotten stuck in the sand which gave mike the perfect opportunity to test out his new winch. They had been there over two hours.. luckily for them we came by.

Base camp for night two we chose a wiser spot. Closer to the Barstow area now we found a rock wall to huddle up against for the night circling the trucks so we could avoid what happened the previous night. Luckily for us it wasn’t as cold as the previous night. Tight quarters.

The next morning we headed back into the desert for the final stretch.

Next was the rock pile monument on Soda Lake.

Continuing on we entered a giant, soft wash which left ken a bit stuck. A quick tug from Ryan got him free in no time with no more incidents the rest of the trip. The Gaia gps track I had had been perfect until now, we kind of made out own way where the gpx file told us to go until be got to the correct road. We think the sand had blown over the road making it hard to see.

Once in Afton canyon, reaching our ending point we found some fun little 4x4 trails to follow and play around on before having to end the journey. Wd followed them up to a couple canyons and hiked to the back. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip seeing the huge canyon walls formed over the years and getting to crawl around in the caves they made.

After hiking and lunch at the canyon. We continued onto the river. The water wasn’t too deep compared to before but was deep enough that it made it fun for sure.

After the crossing was a grated flat road winding in and out of hills so we cruised that until the full off on the side of the freeway. When we got to pavement our epic journey had come to an end.

Our journey through the desert was now complete. Over 120+ miles were clocked and many laughs around the fire enjoying the good times. Great bunch of guys to spend a few days with and hope to do another trip in the near future. Trips like this is what fuels my addiction to keep building my truck, thanks a lot guys

Looks like a blast. I always enjoy reading the trip reports and seeing the pics from you guys out west. I'm going to make it out there...some day, maybe. Ha ha.

Austin...when you did your shock relocation did you cycle the leaf pack? Just a question for my knowledge and want to get some tips as I will be doing mine shortly.

Yea the leaf pack and everything was cycled before everything got officially welded in. Have to measure for bump and to make sure the pack isn't going too negative etc. Also have to measure for what shock length you need and to see if you need to strap the rear or not

Lots of things come into play

Never thought I would but took the truck in for some work on it due to the time frames of things going on an me not being able to do the work.

Told them about the front end wheel slight play and the shop called back saying it was lca bushings causing the play and said $970 to replace.. told them to kick rocks.

Also noticed that my TC coil bucket gussets happened to rub against an ac line and slightly cut it causing all the gas inside the system to leak out Kinda looked like a B*tch to replace due to the pressed on fitting and tight working space? (had them do it)

Also got the front three belts replaced (easy) but still squeaked when I went to pick it up so the guy said I would have to leave it more for him

All lines relocated now so nothing touches anything sharp down there
