Yea I was thinking about it. I'll be here until mid August.

After this last winter/rain the hill on Jacoby has some dirt washed away exposing more of the rock that before. It was noticeably more difficult going up for the 2wd than before.

But you'll be good doing rattlesnake canyon to burns all the way to pioneer town.

Wouldn't recommend coming from bigbear on 3n03 to burns canyon to pioneer though. There are some fairly soft and rocky hills for 2wd

Well this was just delivered... looks like I've got some work ahead. This weekend going camping/riding dirtbikes then straight off to the sierras with the family so won't be back until roughly a week after that. Then to throw all this stuff in and start the gears break-in.

Guess I better look up how to break in the fronts cause I have add hubs :notsure:

    Anyways here's the pics..

Well here's the long overdue update.

Finally threw in the third member and arb I got into my rear housing (488 gears). After driving it around and letting the oil warm up a bit I noticed a puddle of oil under the diff. Thought that the seal we put on there failed and I would rip it out at 500 miles later (checking oil level) after the gears break in so I wouldn't waste a bunch of new oil. Turned out that the leak was coming from the actual arb stud that the air line goes into. I capped it with the arb bulkhead kit that supposed to hold the air line and surprisingly no leak!

Also threw in the front diff. After a long evening of installing the rear and front diff I decided to throw it in 4x4 on the lift. As luck would have it, 4x4 didn't engage. Puzzled and beat from the work I decided I'd tackle the problem later that week. The next morning I shot @Blackdawg a message explaining my issue and replies with exactly the correct answer that I needed. He explained that sometimes the diffs from ecgs come with stub shafts and sometimes they do not. I had always assumed they did so for a solution to my problem, I was thinking the front diff actuator was having a issue or something was installed wrong. We tapped out the stub shaft from my original diff and didn't even have to take the whole diff out again to install it. We simply removed the passenger side cv and disconnected from the diff housing and was able to tap the stub shaft in. Took about 30minutes to do it all on the lift.

Haven't driven the new gears too much but definitely feel great. Much more responsive and will be great to drive on the freeway, light towing, and driving in elevation. Speedo is definitely off and need to pick up the little speedo gear but not a current high priority.

Next on the list is to install the arb compressor, run the air line, and wire the switch to my panel through the aux fuse block.

Also need to throw on my SPAL transcooler fan and run the electrical and switch for that. The new gears should help the trans stay way cooler driving so the fan is mainly for 4lo crawling etc where the trans builds a lot of heat..

Didn't get much pics of the install because my hands were usually super oily and everyone was wrenching but this is what I got.

IMG_7320.jpg IMG_7322.jpg Then after about 500 miles of following the break-in procedures I'll change out the oil front/rear and throw the skids back on

Definitely on the list. I want circle lights up front as well (as opposed to the bar I have there now), and have been looking at RTTS

If it were me, I'd get the winch first. RTT is fancy, but ground tents are good enough and new lights would only be justified by night driving.

    Yea definitely. Decisions decisions....

Still gotta run my spal fan to the transcooler and also wire and hookup the arb compressor to my arb locker. It's just been so hot lately...

Ran the electrical for the SPAL trans cooler fan today and to the ottraw switch inside the cab. Then wired the locker switch up and also the arb compressor switch.

All the switches were supposed to be blue but something must have gotten screwed up because one is white... derp. Now gonna have to rip the center consol out again and switch the backing of the switches along with the electrical for them to match.

Also wired the arb compressor. Waiting on the arb solenoid and quick air connect to next run the air line

Arb solenoid came. Good thing the compressors adjustable or it wouldn't fit where it's mounted. Also ran the air line to the rear end with the arb bulk head fitting kit and quick connect on the compressor side.

Also threw this little TIG weave tonight.. not half bad :notsure:

    Nice Build!

How do you like 488's. I'm contemplating regearing for my 03'. I'm stuck on 4.56 vs 4.88. Currently I'm on 255 85 16 (33") mud terrains. My truck is a fat ass too...camper shell, sleeping platform, drawer system, aux fuel tank, fridge etc.

Can definitely 100% recommend the 488s. I am so glad I didn't go with the 456 gears.

The difference in the two is minimal and you probably would barely feel a difference if you went 456. Highway is also a breeze now, I'm seeing lower trans temps and overall perfect. 488s are the only way.... or higher

Nice! I'm leaning toward 488's as it is. It seems like my 410's to 4.56 would have a minimal effect. Especially with my truck's fatness.

If your truck is heavy at all I wouldn't even hesitate with that descision. I'd just go 488s. And you can cruise at 75 no issues

Are you manual or auto? Auto's should be at 4.88s while manuals can be either 4.58 or 4.88. That's what @Delta00 and I are going back and forth on ha
