Chris' truck is in there, video was from 13'?

Hello,

I am writing concerning a recent news story that is up on the Hawaii News Now home page regarding Kaena Point. I understand the point of the story is to show people who are not following the rules as given by the state where driving is concerned. I'm not sure if anyone fact checked the story, but I happen to know the drives of a few of the trucks in your video clips. The clips that you chose to show with Tacoma's in them were from a few years back, the summer of 2013 to be specific.. And the current rules and regulations have only been in place for about a year. So it is not factually correct to use clips from that video as an example.

The story also says the gate was installed two years ago, and I don't know when specifically the gate was installed, but the permitting system has only been in place since November of 2014. I know this because I applied for a permit as soon as they started the program and it was signed 11-22-2014. I have not been to Kaena Point since they started the permitting system, so I cannot speak to the conditions out there, but I can say without a doubt that the video clips you used on your webpage are misleading since they are from more than a year before the permits were required and any actual roads were marked.

I can also say that the truck at 1:15, 1:41, and 1:50 is a good friend of mine, and he moved out of the state in the summer of 2014, before the permits were required. I believe that is enough proof that the videos are out of date and should be removed from the story for the sake of accuracy.

Although I found the videos on this story to be misleading, I do appreciate all that Hawaii News Now does for us, and I thank you guys for keeping us informed as you always do!

Did Ratha have a OME sticker on his passenger door? I thought that was his truck but I don't remember the sticker being there.

 

That was Chris's truck. I checked the date of some pictures and they were taken June 2013.

 

BTW, Nate, who did you send the email too? didn't Jim Mendoza do the story?

They made it look pretty bad on the news. I guess to the normal idiot watching the news, they think those trucks are ripping monk seals in half driving through those puddles on the main road.

Nate, you should add to your email to HNN that the video of the truck driving through the mud is not doing nothing wrong since it's on the main road, unlike that jeep in the mud hole.
