But if it isn't covered you'll have to do the repairs yourself and pay them for diagnostics, or pay for the whole repair... Its not major but you'll get raped no matter which way if it isn't covered... Can always call and ask

Chalan Pago. Oh yeah that closed a while ago but I remember checking it out. Oahu is my second home now and I'm stoked to be back in a toyota. Had a 99 4runner back in college then had 2 acura's. Missed the truck scene so now I'm back, just waiting for the delivery of my TRDOR :bananadance:

I haven't done this since Maui OR took care of me, but you need to mark the nut before you remove the pinion, and tighten just past your mark when you install the new seal. There is a crush sleeve on the pinion and will adjust the pinion depth/ gear mesh if tightened too far.

No the shim stack changes the pinion backlash... I gave him a FSM with Toyota Procedures, Tools, and Specifications... He should be ok its an easy job with the tools

Sort of... The torque you put in the nut changes the preload, the stack of shims on the pinion side of the bearings changes the gear mesh... You rub bluing compound to the meshing faces of the ring gear, then set the preload, then inspect the ring and pinion blued areas to check the mesh... You want the mesh to leave a witness mark dead center of the teeth... If its too far in or out, tear the pinion side down again and readjust the shim stack and repeat... It's mind of tedious to get it perfect, but your rear will thank you for it in the long run

sounds like black magic to me. I was just told to mark pinion nut it to replace seal if the crush sleeve wasn't being replaced as well.

That's shade tree... That's good enough if you're on the side of the road... If you in your garage and only want to do it that one time, do it per the manual which is the shit when you need to do a project... I can link you

Oh, no need for that. I just didn't see it in your post to replace the crush sleeve, just the pinion seal.
