I didn't do my safety on base. I had mine done at the Goodyear off Salt Lake. It took a while but zero issues. I figured they would fail me because of the swingout blocking vision and my brake lights. But no it passed.

rule of thumb...if you pass recon...safety should be NO issue

if you want to register it in Hawaii you will need safety first then go to Satelite City hall with the military exemption form and register it....or if your registration is still good on your current plates, same process but they are gonna give you this big ass blue sticker to put on your bumper

Seems I've been running into all the "awesome" people when I'm trying to do the right things since moving here .
Getting my guns registered was a whole other stupid ordeal.

@LogCabins, you're never leaving! Stop playing, Rob! LOL!!!

@Islandchick There are a lot of States that are easier and more lenient with vehicle mods and firearms registration and permits, however,...as the saying goes..."it's the cost to live in paradise." I've gone through recon twice (for two different trucks) and registered my firearms. As long as you prepare the necessary documents and information; it ain't all that bad if you know where to go, when to go, and what is tolerated or not.

As for "safety", just like the other guys said, I wouldn't go to any shops on-post, or even stealerships. You're better off going to local shops who interpret the regulations in favor of the driver vice something written that has nothing to do with "safety". In fact, the current term is "PIMV", which stands for "periodic inspection of motor vehicles", because even the politicians/justice system knows it's really not because of safety. It's more rules and regulations made to collect more money for the state from a smaller group of individuals who can't fight against the legislation.

If I remember correctly, the yellow copy of your recon paperwork states something like:

"I certify that the above information is correct to the best of my knowledge. I understand that any changes in the above listed components voids this permit and requires re-application. An approved copy will be retained in the vehicle."

My interpretation of this is that if you already have recon, any changes from the recon paperwork requires an update; otherwise it's not valid and the PIMV inspector can fail you.

I revalidated my Recon after I installed the bumpers. It was easy enough.
