Speaking of recon.. was thinking of going to get it sometime soon after an alignment. recently got some 17x9 wheels. Tires now sick out a bit past the fenders. Will I need extensions to pass recon? Tread that touches road is right in line with current flares... obviously rear mud flaps don't cover all the way anymore either....

    Too long to list :D
Tread will be a tossup; technically if you were to drop a plumb bob down from the fender, the furthest out tread block that contacts the road must be within that plumb bob. But if it is right on the line, it is up to them. Mine was 1/4" inside so I was good.

But the garden flares are fine as long as they are held on by screws or clips. Tape can be used also, but not as the sole means of attachment.

And rear mud flaps are required to cover the full width of the tire (same again, just the tread that contacts the road, not necessarily any sidewall bulge) and at least half way down the tire. Again, you can make mud flaps, but they have to be held on with they consider permanent means (screws/clips).

What brand are people using for extended mud flaps?

Anyone out there with the 05+ tacoma with 17x9 rims go get safety or recon and pass recently??

I think I grabbed a pair of whatever was cheapest at checker and bolted them to my existing, so they would be long enough. Not pretty, but passed.

Do this and you'll pass. I did the same thing. I didn't go out as far cause i have 18x9 wheels, these are 20x12 i think. It looks like:poking: but you can take it off as soon as you leave, lol. I kept mine so i can put them on for safety checks. Just use the black plastic auto pluggy things.

I have the other brand...05 Frontier LE KC
    Lots of fun stuff
Don't post much on TW but been lurking for a while. Also been talking with some Oahu guys about the power rear window mod and since inspiration came from TW figured I'd share my power rear window mod on a Nissan Frontier. Our setup is a little different and we aren't able to go quite as stealth as the Tacoma's. This is the rough draft. The brown strip that you see is the paper backing on the plexi which I have yet to remove. Mounted my switch here
    IMG_3390_zps87d98317_6c4d04fa2df68733cccea59a8dd048625c9b7f85.jpg

And here is a link to a video of the window working. The pause in the middle of the video is because I stopped pressing the switch.
