As long as not after market rims and got stock suspension wont need recon . Stock rims all good .
EDIT IIRC. Can go up two size up before needing recon with stock rims.

They’re gonna recon you. While those are Toyota wheels, they’re a different offset and size than what came with your truck. Safety folks will know because 9/10 Tacomas and 4Runners have them on island

They look good! You won’t have any issues passing. Just have the alignment paperwork and you’re cherry.

You should be fine without obtaining recon given you meet the requirements below

    http://www.honolulu.gov/cms-csd-men...s-about-reconstructed-vehicle-inspection.html

Is a reconstructed vehicle permit required if the only modification to my vehicle is the installation of aftermarket wheels or tires?
    • Provided there are no suspension modifications on the vehicle, no reconstructed vehicle inspection or permit is required when only replacing wheels or tires regardless of size.
    • Replacement tires must be U.S. DOT approved and meet the load range requirement of the vehicle which it is installed on.
    • Wheel or tire applications installed on vehicles require adequate tire clearance as to not contact any part of the body, suspension or structural component upon normal operation of the vehicle.

The full PDF for your enjoyment. Your mileage will vary with inspectors, but if they fail you.. you’re gonna have a hard time winning an argument. Page 51 goes into more detail about the inspection process for wheels and tires, and I’ve affached a confusing screenshot as to why I think you’ll get funny looks from most inspectors. You’re running T4R wheels, not Tacoma wheels, so they could say all day that those aren’t OREP wheels.

    Good luck :)

As far as I can remember the plus 1 diameter plus 2 width was amended so now any rim and tire will pass as long as it meets requirements about not rubbing and not sticking beyond flares. Any suspension mod needs recon but if you can fit 22x14 rims and tires on stock suspension and they don’t rub or stick out then no need recon. I realize that’s not a realistic scenario but you get the point.

No recon needed with the t4r pro wheels on your Tacoma. I get mine every year an I run 255/70/17 tires.

    I hate you all.

    :anonymous:

I read the FAQ and was like .. this doesn’t look like what I read before. I don’t trust safety inspectors, so that’s why I posted it.

I hear you on this. I've had recon on different vehicles and I remember when the rules on rims and tires were as you posted from the literature. I guess they probably realized that specific part of the rules needed to be chillaxed a bit. Imagine a T4R Limited and SR5 with the exact same rims, but one required recon given the size/wheel combination.. haha.

Oh I agree. That’s why I figured they wouldn’t consider those wheels OREP for a Tacoma.

Either way, thanks guys for clearing things up. Really appreciate it.

Didn’t some lady win city counsel or whatever that wants to get rid of these inspections?

They have 2 year inspections for brand new cars. Then it goes annually after that.
I'm just glad that we don't have to deal with smog checks
