Hey guys, just got on the island last week. Trying to get straight to pass Recon so I can register my truck.
Is a high clearance rear bumper going to be an issue for not having mud flaps? If so what quick fixes do you guys use?

Make some mud flap mounts out of some L-angle and attach any universal mud flaps. Either premade flaps or cut out of any similar material.

Im pretty sure the rule for mudflaps is that you need to have the upper half of your tires covered. With my high clearence, i drilled/tapped a couple holes and put some cheap universal flaps in place.

Any changes to suspension? With any ride height differences, youll need a recent wheel alignment sheet that shows youre in specs...within 30 days. I think that's the most bothersome part of recon.

I was hoping it wouldn’t come to that since I won’t have my house hold goods until Jan.

yep, I learned that today as well after I drove to the Recon site in Kapahulu. Went to Firestone to make an alignment appointment because I’ve had life-time alignment with them for 13 years and they tell me they don’t align lifted trucks. this is turning into a thing and it’s getting frustrating, especially since there’s hundreds of trucks running around with ridiculous lifts and zero tire coverage / no mud flaps.
I need to work on my Aloha...

If you have base access, the firestone on Shafter Flats or Hickam should honor your life time alignment.

I think theres a sticky about hawaii recon with basic Q&A as well, pretty helpful. You can also google search it, or even call them with questions. Going in once is an eye opener, and especially if youre not prepared can be troublesome.

Just remember, when you get your wheel alignment done it has to be "all in the green" meaning that it fits within your factory specs.

PM me if you need any specific advice/questions

It was the Firestone on Schofield that told me to kick rocks. I’ll give the other locations a call, thx.

If you need a recon alignment Goodyear in Kaneohe will do it.

Also if you get saftey done at the Schofield auto skills center they only take alignments from scotties and some other place. So keep that in mind as well.

Also fire stone is fucking trash bro over charged and dont like touching modified vehicles. I forbid my soldiers from going there unless they bring me with them

Also if you are running a custom alignment let them know you need a recon print out an then your actual alignment print out if they don’t ask you.

Blowing snow and fog and sleeping in the back of the 4runner while the road was closed for 5 hours, then driving on 40 miles of ice, made me miss Hawaii a little bit. Forgot to mention it was 8° outside.
