Wanted to drop in and say hello to all, I'll be headed to Oahu in July on orders (and straight into quarantine!). Looking forward to getting back to the island after a 13 year hiatus, and I'm looking forward to joining you all on some runs out to the flats or whatever once all this craziness is over. Not looking forward to recon inspections again, haha...

Popular tires in Hawaii are BFG KO2 and KM3, GY DuraTrac and MTR, Toyo RT and MT, Cooper Discoverer ST Maxx and STT Pro, Nitto Ridge Grappler or Trail Grappler, and Falken Wildpeak AT3W or MT.

Honorable mentions: Mickey Thompson ATZP3, MTZP3, and Boss MT (replaced Claw); and General Grabber AT2 or X3.

Not too many Kumho or Yokohama, though. And there’s of course ProComp, but usually because they are easy to get from that one shop in Waipahu.

Edit: mud terrains in sand will only dig you in deeper. For sand, it’s all about airing down to at least 10-12 PSI and starting slow and building up speed. So, a good air compressor is a good investment if you plan to air down.

New update from state K point.

“5/21/20 - Ka’ena Point State Park is OPEN for day beach and hiking use, subject to Covid-19 restrictions. Day Use Facilities remain CLOSED. Access gates will be CLOSED. Access on the Mokuleia side will be impacted by waterline construction.”

There’s a lot more but let’s be honest most of us only care about the gate access right now :rofl:

My 2cents . I drove a 2WD 2016 Tacoma OR - stock kevlar tires - up to PF and had no problems at all. Being DRY and had a 4WD buddy which I believe someone else recommended.

For those interested yes K point is open and plenty of people out there fishing and hiking. Trail was pretty damn rockey but didn’t stop my one year old from napping the whole trail. Seen a guy in a stock f150 out there so I’m sure stock 4wd Tacoma will make it. I was in 2WD the whole time. If you go just be aware that some people have zero trail edict. Was going slow as to not wake my daughter but and some dude just came up and blew around me fast AF. Guess he didn’t want to wait for me to get to a proper turn off so he could pass. Wouldn’t mind setting up something next weekend if people want to go.

So gate access code available now? I hate the website, takes me forever to figure out how to navigate it.
