Any reason all you guys are going for the standard rear vs HC? Just wondering cause I am getting everything in order and have been debating the same. I am not worried about cutting my bedsides for a HC I just honestly don't want a Tire in my bed, on a swingout, or on my roof. I prefer it underneath but that defeats the purpose of the HC and it looks silly IMO.

Thoughts?

I'm making an educated guess that front bumper would be 150 or less, I've had a bunch of stuff done in varying sizes and the price is kinda all over the place. I'll pass some pictures along to get a better idea, seems like the price is based on difficulty..

he also does rims for 200-250 for a set of 4

since we'll have a good size order, it should be done fast.

now you need to add another switch for the 20"

at least installing all those lights will be light- speed compared to your rock lights

I found a place here that would do my front for $145 and rear for $125.
way better than the powder coating quote I got yesterday for $350 for the front lol.

it would depend on the aluminum spec they use. they have different strengths and toughness. some will crack before/during bending, others will bend before cracking.

the main thing is the design, as long as it's built right, it'll last.

 

The Aluminum is a little tougher than most people think, properly gusseted, formed etc it can be very strong. It is not tough however, if you intend to bang it into rocks, stumps etc it will gouge and bend much easier than its steel counterpart.
We have little choice in Aluminum options for the bumpers, we use 5052-H32 which is bend friendly but not as strong as other options. To use a 6061, 7075 or even a 2024 which are stronger would require drawing the material down to a annealed state to enable the forming without cracking, then we would have to assemble, weld etc and then re-heat treat to a T6 or higher temper which would likely warp excessively and be very cost prohibitive. At the end of the day with all the additional work and cost you would still have an Aluminum bumper that wouldn't fair well in the rocks.

The Aluminum option is great for folks that don't rock crawl, want to save some weight and or live in corrosive environments. I would say its a really good choice for most folks on the islands.
