Can't blame them, tons of customers were having issues in the parking lot. Too bad for Oakland residents, the double-double is a top-notch burger.

Oh, I totally agree. But, every so often, I have an urge for a nasty white boy hard shell taco or five, and Taco Bravo only has the Campbell location these days.

That being said, the El Grullense that was at the corner of San Carlos and Delmas in San Jose had the best hard shell tacos around. Looks like they're called El Jalapeno Rojo now, and don't make them anymore. Disappointing.

Never been a fan of in/out burgers. I personally don’t get why some people rave about them. They ain’t bad but they’re not fabulously orgasmic either. Each to their own. But in any event it’s just another loss for Oaktown. I don’t know what’s left there worth risking getting mugged, robbed or shot. The street I grew up on there I wouldn’t drive down it even in an armored personnel carrier.

Jack in the crack. 2 tacos. $1.99. You’re welcome.

Looks like Denny’s is pulling out too.

I could have sworn Oakland was getting better around a decade ago and it was getting gentrified. I had a few friends even buy a house/condos there saying that it's the next up-and-coming. Born and raised in the bay, I had my doubts but was optimistic. Sad to see it make a 180 but I'm not surprised. A lot of fuckery going on in the bay.

It was getting better. That's the sad part. But Oakland is a pretty diverse place. You've got wealth to abject poverty. But the downtown had a lot of businesses starting and started by local people. Some cool new restaurants came to town and you sort of wanted to go there. Then it just started changing for worse.

Oakland has been declining since the early 60’s. I was born and raised there, was a LEO there for a couple years back in the 70’s. I saw up close and personal what was happening. While I was still a LEO my wife and I moved out of there. Soon after I left law enforcement for a completely different career path. Oakland city and the PD was becoming very political. Even back then I feared if I had to use deadly force no matter what the circumstances I’d be blamed and suffer the consequences . Time to change careers. There were numerous factors that led to Oaklands demise, I won’t go into the sociology of that. I will say that drugs and drug related crime were big contributors to the decline. Even today most of the stops where an arrest is made drugs are a part of it. There’s a dozen other factors too.
For a few years Oakland was trying rebuild itself. A lot of money was dumped into it on urban renewal projects. Tried to fix up the downtown area. Yuppies began moving there and renovating many of the old Victorian houses. They started building expensive condos and appartments attracting more affluent yuppies. They thought it was cool to live there until they started getting mugged, robbed and having their BMW’s stolen. So they started moving out and Oakland decline started anew. I personally can’t imagine anything that will save that city.
A year or two ago I met up with some old high school buddies at Quinn’s Light house for lunch. I hadn’t been in Oakland for probably 10 years. Couldn’t believe how bad it was , looked like a third world cesspool. Most houses had bars on the windows. Same for businesses they were barred and had metal shutters, boarded up. It was filthy, debris everywhere. Graffiti everywhere, lot of gang graffiti. Homeless all over. And I just read Quinn’s Lighthouse where we had lunch, it had been there for 60 or 70 years was closing. After my lunch there I decided I’d never set foot back in Oakland again. In/Out leaving is just the tip of the iceberg. .

Oakland PD has been in federal oversight for 24 years or more. They've had 10 chiefs in 10 years and what's sad, they fire the people who can maybe help but a year on the job and you're lucky if you know where the In-n-Out even is. Seems like they almost made it out of federal oversight and the latest mayor fired the chief--the city ends up in court--like every other chief who has been terminated and settles. This latest mayor has rejected the last set of candidates (which included the recently fired chief). It's why officers come, finish their FT and lateral out. It's part of the reason residents hate them.

They used to have a really great soul food place with excellent desserts. They're gone. Sad really.

Couple years ago, before Shaeffer's moved, I had to rent a car and the nearest pickup place was downtown. Man, the place was a dump.

Just read that Starbucks, Denny’s and Black Bear Diner all in Oakland are closing. All said it’s due to crime, unsafe for both customers and employees. Plus many many other lesser known small businesses have closed due to crime. One liquor store in the Rockridge area has on 4 occasions in 8 months has had the front of the store rammed with vehicles and a bunch of lowlifes then rush in and steal booze and cigarettes. Even managed to steal the safe with $$ in it. Police arrived on one occasion seeing the thieves leaving but didn’t pursue them . OPD rules of pursuit only allow vehicle pursuit in the following cases- Oakland’s rules on police chases dictate that “pursuits may only be initiated when there is reasonable suspicion to believe the involved individual(s) committed a violent forcible crime and/or a crime involving the use of a firearm, or if there is probable cause that the involved individual(s) is in possession of a firearm,” a statement from the department read. So police just watched the culprits drive away. When I was there that would have been lights, sirens, adrenaline pumping, get the sob’s.
Kind of sad for me since that’s my home town, a lot of memories there but now it’s too dangerous to even visit (not that I want to)

to be Clear. West Oakland is Thunderdome. there are some better/good neighborhoods within that city.

i still venture in to visit and eat. one of the actual reasons i kept my old Tacoma instead of selling it. i use it as my oakland trip vehicle. hahahha...head on a swivel, and dont be stupid. to the best of my abilities.

what about that Bank of America Drive up ATM up the street? i once needed cash at 4:00 am. not even for a millisecond did i think pulling up to that ATM was a good idea. i would need a couple of friends watching my back..and one of those buddies needs to be John Wick.

thankfully, i was going to the airport and i know there are ATM's in there.

my wife refuses to fly from Oakland, and she just refuses to set foot in that town. Which really sucks because there are cheap flights to Hawaii and SFO is just a nightmare.

yea. i am a SWA person. i fly out of oakland all the time. the airport itself is awesome.

i am not a naturally paranoid person. cautious? yea. i take precautions. doors locked, full tank of gas. go to the airport and pay for the airport spots for parking. there is killer food in Oakland Chinatown. i wont go at night tho.

plus my old tacoma is very stealth.

Oakland Airport is the only place in Oakland I stop at. I have used both daily and long term parking. I fly frequently out of Oakland without any issues. I have been doing this since 2016. Dare I say Oakland Airport is the safest space in Oakland.
