My 2008 just started throwing a p0303 code and has lost a lot of power. it is still drivable although i can barely accelerate. the code indicates cylinder 3 is misfiring. before the code, i would sometimes have a rough idle before the car warmed up. at stop lights, the idle would be rough unless i put the car in neutral.

i'm 175 miles from home in a remote location with little service possibilities. i was able to pull the spark plug and it looks good. i can use an obd2 reader to reset the code but it comes back fairly quickly if i let the car idle. not sure it would be that quick if i was on the road.

from what i've read, when i get the p0303 code, it goes into safe mode and should be drivable, even for a slower 175 mile ride home. would it be better to just drive home in safe mode or use the obd2 reader to reset the code and hopefully i can get some miles in before i would need to reset it again. thanks for any help.

If your check engine light starts flashing, do NOT keep driving.
I’d swap the #3 coil to a different cylinder. See if it follows to that cylinder.

Where is your location? If you are stranded in the remote location, don't hesitate to start a " Help " thread. More likely local TW members will gladly assist.

thanks all for the comments. i'm currently up in the hills over a hours drive from sonora, californai. no local service and probably would require a tow to sonora. tnshooter's comment was very helpful. i was able to move the coil from cyl 3 to cyl 1. then reran the obd2 reader, and the error code moved to cyl 1. i located a napa echlin coil in sonora and will pick it up on monday.
