I have searched the forum and all the replies I have found are making reference to OBD2 scanners without the ABS function. Sorry if I missed a post referencing a model that scans ABS codes.

I have a 2008 Tacoma off-road 4X4 DC with the 6cyl engine that has 64k miles. I have been dealing with an intermittent ABS light that illuminates. Along with the ABS light I am experiencing a loss of acceleration (feels like your foot slips off the gas pedal) and the engine is still operating. When the ABS light illuminates I turn the engine off and restart and the ABS light stays off. This has been going on for some time now. At first it was the loss of acceleration usually in a right hand turn. Then the ABS light started to illuminate.

I was messaging one of the members who was experiencing the same problem. He replaced his gas pedal and it fixed his problem. I followed the same course of action and all was good this weekend until yesterday. The ABS light illuminated with no loss of acceleration, while stopped at a traffic light I restarted the Tacoma and the ABS light went out. Approximately 15 minutes later while accelerating out of a right turn to enter traffic there was a loss of acceleration for approximately 2 seconds and then the ABS light illuminated.

I was thinking about buying the Harbor Freight OBD2 scanner with ABS function but the reviews are stating some vehicles the ABS code function does not work. Per the reviews on the Harbor Freight web page there is a 20% restocking fee for returning the OBD2 scanner.

I will also call the local auto parts stores to see if they rent an OBD2 scanner tool. I hate to blindly replace parts like I did with the accelerator pedal but I am thinking about replacing the brake light switch since most have on the forum have replaced this part with the loss of acceleration, however I am not experiencing my brake lights staying on after I exit the vehicle.

Any and all help is appreciated.

I'm not sure about the loss of acceleration (that one is concerning), but the flashing ABS light is a normal characteristic of some OBDII scanners...I have the Foseal OBDII scanner and if I leave it plugged in when I turn my truck off, it will cause the ABS light to flash like crazy when I start the truck up again. ABS still works as far as I can tell, but the light flashes.

Only way I can get around this is to plug the scanner in after I start my truck, then everything appears normal.
