    Hello TW peeps,

Looking for OBD2 scanner recommendations. Things I'm looking for from a tool; read/clear CEL codes, program TPMS if possible, and I guess that's about it! Not sure what all is needed when it comes to TPMS, but worst case, I'd love a recommendation on a cheap tool for only CEL codes.

I checked out their site; it looks like their products are vehicle specific, is that correct? I'm looking for something that could be used to read codes on multiple vehicles. Although, I'm not opposed to going this route and scoring a super cheap code reader for other vehicles if this one is just the bee's knees. Can you spread some light on what the TPMS program process looks like with this tool?

Ive been able to use mine on multiple vehicles, but if you have an automatic trans, you may need a specific one for that to work. i have a manual, so i'm not much help in regard to that.

Not sure on the TPMS thing, i havent messed with that either, but i dont think these can be used for that.

gotcha, thanks for clarification. I do have an automatic. So is it safe to say UG will work with any vehicle equipped with OBDII port, but gauges/functions will be limited/different per vehicle depending on what those vehicles do and don't support?

Correct, and you might need a certain UG model to pickup trans temps on your auto

    Thanks for the help!

Do you or anyone else have recommendations on TPMS tools? Something to program the new ID's to the ECU, and I guess bonus points for something that can also scan for the sensor ID's in the event they're already installed and I don't have the ID's on hand.

Well I thought I was coming for cheap Bluetooth/app $30 recommendations for occasional CEL codes to be used on a couple vehicles. Now I'm convinced I need an ultraguage for my truck to leave hard-mounted somewhere, to have constant trans temp, battery voltage, recalibrated/correct speed from larger tires, correct gas mileage, etc.

So now I want to spend more money on this, for the truck, and still not have something for the other vehicle that sparked this need in the first place. I hate this place :anonymous:

I got the Kitbest OBD2 Scanner and OBD Fusion app. So far it works fine, but I can't figure out how to get transmission temp. Seems I need to add a custom monitor using a PID, but I can't actually find the necessary info to do that. I found some old info for like 2007 model but not sure that will be the same.

    Good info.
I'm in the market for a multi vehicle scan tool too.
could have used one today on my 2017 honda civic rear brake rebuild.
some obd tools can be used to give a signal to retract rear electric brake motor to allow caliper to retract.
i dont have obd tool, so had to disassemble portion of motor to physically retract the gear.
just starting to look into this tool.
having advanced obd read/send capability now makes sense, if cost not too steep.
my MT taco & no tpms maybe requires only simple tool.
    new to me.

looked at info regarding specific vehicle manufacturer code parameters on ultraguage website.
my civic brake release code not available.
perhaps proprietary to honda shop diagnostic tools

I just bought a Foxwell scan tool, but I found this video while researching. Looks like Amazon has it for $45 dollars now.
