So I just picked up an OBDII module so that I could monitor trans temp, etc. while towing this summer with my Torque app. Had one in my Camaro for 3 years and had no issues. Plugged this one in this weekend and after a couple minutes got the ABS and traction control warnings light up on my dash. Stopped, restarted and had the same. Removed the OBDII and the lights went away.
Is this a common thing having something plugged in there causing codes? maybe its just this new module is junk, had good reviews though. Didn't wanna use my old one cuz its bigger and would stick out to far.
    Kind of a bummer...

Some of them act strangely with the obd2 and can mix up module communication thus causing lights, ive removed 2 no name brands from customers vehicles causing warning lights to be on, i have yet to hear of a scan guage creating problems.

I use a Scanguage II for daily monitoring but really bought it for towing and trans temps. I have a Bluedriver bluetooth reader for more in depth monitoring and resetting. Never had an issue leaving them in while running.

With scan gauge you can also use it to show an accurate speed! I use mine to show the correct speed, both transmission temps and engine temp constantly and you can stroll through the other manually.

Right on the home page of carista as your connecting it mentions that warnings on the dash are normal. That said I have a $12 one that doesnt have any issues staying in all the time and have never had any dash warnings.

That's normal, my OBDII plug in will trip my ABS warning light if I leave it plugged in after restarting the truck. Have to start the truck and then plug in the OBDII adapter, if you leave it plugged in it will trip the light.

yea, I was gonna go the route of plugging it in after starting the truck. still a pain in the ass to have to take it out each time. oh well. I thought about the scanguage but wasn't sure if that was gonna throw errors by leaving it in also

I just fired up Torque Pro a couple weeks ago, using the OBDII plug-in thing I bought years ago. I can't even remember when I got it... maybe 2009? I left it plugged in over night, then drove the next day after setting up the trans temp PIDs. It worked fine. No warning lights.

I do not leave it plugged in all the time, though. I intend to use it when I'm towing the trailer to monitor trans temps. Otherwise, the little doohickey sticks out a bit and can be a bit annoying.

only thing bad about the one I have is when you clear codes it clears everything on the daughters car...so the first 3 or 4 starts are rough, then the ecu re learns the idle settings. Its the only vehicle it does it on. no other codes pop on but Ive never left it connected very long.

    Bringing this back up.....

I’m using the BAFX and Torque Pro. I get the ABS and Anti Skid lights while towing my camper. Funny thing is the lights wont pop on at first. Its when I turn the truck off then start up I get the lights. Turning the truck on and off wont make the lights go away. Second funny thing, it only happens when I have the camper hooked up. All functions of the camper work perfectly. Lights, trailer brakes everything work. Ive never gotten these lights keeping the BAFX plugged in full time while the trailer is not connected.

So, when these lights are on, are the ABS and Anti-Skid functions working or not? Next time I tow I plan to connect the BAFX after I start the truck. If that fixes the issue I’m not sure how long I will be running Torque Pro before caving for the Scan Guage.
