Every once in a while when I brake I can hear what I can only describe as a dry pump sound accompanied by a knocking that I can feel in the pedal… any ideas?

Sounds like the ABS system to me. I ended up pulling the ABS#1 fuse from under the hood on my dad's truck. His truck was making noise from the engine passenger side that I could feel in the pedal. It was so bad that the truck wouldn't stop on the line at the stop sign at the end of the block. I limped it back to the house safely and pulled the fuse. The ABS light came on after that but at least he's got good old non ABS brakes. I think his problem stems from a C1239 code for the rear driver side wheel speed sensor. I've swapped the sensor and swapped the rear wiring with no luck fixing it. This spring I'll be doing more testing but until then at least the brake work fine. Are you getting any codes? keep in mind some code readers won't read "C" type codes like my old one didn't. Good Luck!

Thanks Alexander! I tried to capture the sound I’m hearing. Hopefully it’s helpful!
I occasionally get the ABS light on but it doesn’t seem to correlate with the thumping.
Ill try pulling that fuse to test if that’s the culprit.

It's tough to tell on my computer.

I've had it happen on my truck too once or twice but wasn't nearly as bad as my dad's truck. If I put the fuse back in his the problem instantly comes back.

I'm so close to just pulling the fuse out on my truck. I don't mind not having ABS but I hate seeing warning lights on the dash.

    Good Luck!
