Interesting, I thought I was going sort of crazy. My truck seems to go from one extreme to another with no real pattern.

I don't think I've had mine 'bog' actually, but the pedal sensitivity definitely has a mind of its own.

    '21 TRD OR DCSB auto
    265/75R16's
KDMax pro tune at like 2000 miles, currently at roughly 14k miles

Sometimes my truck hesitates like OP describes and other times the throttle will be be wildly touchy sort of like how the early throttle-by-wire and fuel injected motorcycles felt trying to maintain speed.
I don't stick to any particular gas station, but its all been 87 octane.

I had just accepted it as 'normal' figuring the tuning for a pickup would be much less refined compared to other vehicles I've had tuned.

When it happens it is definitely “not normal”. It’s like if you were driving a manual and started from a dead stop in 6th gear. Day 2 after not using Costco gas and the truck is fine. Acts like a clogged fuel filter except you bump it in to neutral and throttle response is normal. I’m not the sharpest tool in the shed but I’m pretty good at figuring things out and this one has me stumped. 3200 miles so not concerned because it’s under warranty so we will see.

Well after some deductive reasoning I have discovered that the aftermarket Led taillights are the culprit. Sounds crazy but I swapped back to the OEM taillights Friday morning and haven't had a problem since. I had read where some Tundras had experienced issues after installing aftermarket lights. Something to do with voltage/resistance or possibly a bad ground/wiring in the lights themselves that messes with the safety sense system and goes into limp mode even though I never got a light or code. I've reached out to the folks I purchased the lights from to get their take on it. Never would have guessed it. Truck runs great now.

this happens to me during the "learning" process if i change grades of fuel or reset the fuel/air ratios via pulling the EFI fuse. i guess the ECU is still trying to determine proper shift points and sometimes it hiccups. goes away after a while but it takes like 3-4 full tanks of gas for it to learn. takes a longggg time.

If I pump the gas rapidly at a stop, it will hesitate and basically just idle for about 2-3 painfully long seconds (it's happened at awkward stop signs), but I've never gone from 0 throttle stopped to 1/4 quarter in one fluid press and it just doesn't respond. I have the 4 cylinder so I get a boosted throttle response whereas the V6 3rd gens get a sluggish throttle response. I run 85 octane by the way. I don't buy any of the octane arguments on this forum. It's very possible that the truck is still trying to adapt to your driving habits and it's getting confused. After I put 3000 miles on my Tacoma, it dawned on me how much better it drove than when I first bought.

Using a different gas and returning to OEM lights improving is perplexing.

Interesting. I never would have put that cause and effect together. Whose aftermarket tail lights were they?

It’s got nothing to do with the fuel or octane. The problem wasn’t just some minor hesitation it was significant and dangerous. I can’t explain the taillights being the problem but I’m 99.9% sure that they are.

I've taken mine in for this issue and the techs say its normal of course.. i have an old fly by wire car and the response is far more linear than the taco, if i move the pedal a little i hear and see a change. in the taco, if i apply the same movement there may or may not be change in acceleration or rpms; leading to a deeper press to illicit a response. the dealership says it is noted in the event logs (double tap) and thus says its driver related (nevermind that i'm double pressing after 3 seconds of nothing). in a way i feel like i'm driving a horse but even a horse is more responsive to little nudges
