I have a 2013 Tacoma 4x4 v6, I have noticed occasional steering wheel shake while braking at approximately 70mph,it doesn't do it all the time, just sometimes. I only have like 30,000 miles on it,if it were warped rotors it would do it all the time, right? Besides at 30,000 miles my rotors shouldn't warp anyway, right? What could it be? Thanx!

Guess I'm the only one with this problem.

I would pull the front wheels off and spray your breaks down with brake clean. If you do not have a shimmy when not breaking it should not be your tires out of balance but you could rotate the rear tires to the front to check that. Your rotors being warped depends on your driving style plus driving through a puddle with hot brakes could do it. Brakes and rotors are pretty cheap and simple to swap out. 30K could be just about time depending on your habits. If is happens on the same road it could be the surface as well.

ive had one drum turned at 5k bought the truck with 4,268 due to demo model. Just had it back to toyota due to front rotors. It was bad enough for the tech to feel it this time but had it in before and the said they didnt feel anything. Im at 26k now and i still feel some but its very little in the seat which is rear brakes. When take it to my uncles shop to install my lift and wheels ill throw the drums on the lathe and do it myself. I only have 10k left of warranty so im not worried. If anything is said ill just have him wright me up a ticket as i paid for the service.

steering wheel its front seat is rear while you hit the brakes its something slightly warped. should shake or pulse unless something is wore out or warped in the brakes.

If its under warranty take it in. if not its usually like 20 to 25 a rotor to have them turned.

If you decide to have your rotors turned be sure to do both not just one! This goes for replacing them also. Always do brakes as a set. I doubt the issue is in your drums so I would focus on the front. In my opinion just throw a set of pads and new rotors in the front. Do it yourself and it should cost you less than $100.00 for it all and at max an hour of your time.

I've had wheel shake before and it turned out to be a certain stretch of freeway that I travel occasionally. I thought something was wrong at first. It took me a while to realize it only happened on that certain section of road (about five miles worth). The road doesn't appear any different either.

I'm not saying this is your issue - just that it's not always the vehicle's fault.

I don't know, before I had this,I had a Chevy Colorado,it had 75,000 miles on it, and I never did anything to if as far as brakes. I can't believe I may need some type of brake work done on my Toyota at 30,000 miles! I was planning on keeping this truck for a loooooong time, now I'm not so sure.

I was hoping that was the case, but it happens on a few different roads. I don't know why I can go some days without feeling it, then feel it the next day,its so sporadic, it's weird! If it was warped rotors, wouldn't it happen consistently?

As what was said drums are felt in the rear, steering wheel or whole truck is normally the fronts. I was stating i had a issue with mine at 5k and toyota did take care of both issues when they felt it. Anything in the brakes should be replaced in pairs. You wouldn't believe how many people come in wanting on side of pads or one pad.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
^^ If you're hitting the brakes at 70 mph frequently, IMO you're lucky they've lasted this long.

I felt mine more towards mid morning to evening. Once the brakes were hot. toyota thought i was nuts but Ive had warped rotors before that did the same thing.

Only thing you can do is start checking everything or have it looked at. You can get a dial gauge and turn your rotor to see if you have any run-out. If you have a shop do it on the truck vs taking them off you get a better cut. If done right you will have 0 run out due to the machine cutting them while on the truck to that set up. if take it off then it can give you slight run out but not alot due the machine. Youtube it.

I don't have a problem replacing both pads or rotors at the same time,my problem is ,I can't believe I need brake work at 30,000 miles!!!! I hope I don't need rotors yet!

I'm not hitting them frequently, just when I need to slow down.

Thats what i thought along with many others that have swapped out many of sets due to warping. Ive seen a few threads talking about what the best rotors are due to issues with warping or wanting better braking.

Guess I'll bring it back to the dealer and see what they say, they'll probably say it's normal, until my warranty expires in 6000 miles.

I had a 2008 Ranger, front disc/rear drums. Had the same shake at 25K, dealer told me it was a "normal wear, not covered by warranty issue", had the discs turned that fixed it till 40K, shake back, replaced rotars and pads with auto parts store stuff, no more problems, traded for Taco at 60K
