I have an '05 Tacoma. Installed aftermarket seats. I need to bypass the airbag sensors located below the passenger side seat. I came across an Occupant Classification Sensor (OCS) from Metal Tech. The OCS is a switch that can manually turn the airbag on the passenger side on and off. Metal Tech says that the OCS switch works on some Toyota Trucks but the '05 Tacoma is not listed on the application list. Has anyone had experience with the Occupant Classification Sensor By Pass Module Rev. 2.0.0 from Metal Tech and do you know if it works on an '05 Tacoma?

I assume you've called the manufacturer already and asked.

Could not get any information from the dealer regarding a bypass.

The OCS on MetalTech's website, has the instruction PDF that says it works on Toyotas that have the Toyota Occupant Detection Computer (part number: 89952-35011).

Don't know if the 2005 has this. This site seems to suggest that it does.

Lol! glad I found this thread...I just emailed them to ask the same question. I just put BMW sport seats in...cannot find an occupancy emulator anywhere...then saw the one on Metaltech. If it works on an 06, I highly doubt it wouldn't on an 05...??

I went to the junkyard and pulled a seat with all the wiring. My plan is to unhook all the sensors and wiring harness and just leave it plugged in under my aftermarket seat so the light will turn off (hopefully) on the passenger side. For the driver side i read about soldering a resistor onto the black connector?

There's wiring behind the cover below the vent right side of the radio in my 06 anyways for the key switch to turn the airbag on and off. You may be able to get that key switch at a bone yard.

Need to look at the drawings to see if the 2 are wired in parallel.

Both my airbags are currently disabled. I'm not sure what I'm going to do honestly because the airbag systems are pretty complicated and the computer calculates how much force to deploy the airbag based on a number of factors determined by information given by seat and seatbelt sensors.

"Advanced frontal air bags are designed to meet the needs of the occupant in a variety of specific crash situations. Depending on design, advanced frontal air bag systems automatically determine if and with what level of power the driver frontal air bag and the passenger frontal air bag will inflate. The appropriate level of power is based upon sensor inputs that can typically detect: 1) occupant size, 2) seat position, 3) seat belt use of the occupant, and 4) crash severity."

I did find a guy who said he can make a switch to turn the passenger airbag on or off and then use a resistor to keep the driver side on. However, given the information in the quote about the sensors, I am not sure if its better to just turn the airbags off completely if running the aftermarket seats or if the best thing to do is just go back to the stock seats. We hear all the time how airbags can be dangerous, it makes me believe that if the computer has the wrong information by hooking up a resistor and switch to override the system so that it doesn't have the information it needs that they would be even more dangerous.

I'm wondering how much force the airbag deploys at by default when the system is override and the next question I have is how dangerous is the airbag to an adult? I'm 6'4" and 230 lbs and have the seat all the way back so for me its probably fine for it to deploy at full force and not something to worry about too much but I'm more concerned for a passenger or if someone else is driving my car like my wife who is 5'7" and around 130lbs and sitting closer to the wheel. If it deploys at full force in this situation it could be worse, but I really dont know. Might just go back to stock seats instead of having to worry about all this. Toyota is really stupid for not giving us power seat and leather options in the Tacoma, I hope they are doing it now with the 3rd gens.
