I figured I would ask before I did anything, since someone may have already attempted this....
I really like my OCD tray in my 2017 Tacoma, but while driving accessing items below it can be an issue...Please excuse my horrible paint mock up...
I was wondering if anyone had tried any of the ideas I am considering.
    1. Cut the tray in half, right to left to allow one part to be removed to access front or back of the console.
    317gvFcXEjL_LI.jpg
    2. Drill two holes in the center ridge and attach a piece of paracord knotted underneath to create a grab loop/handle.
    317gvFcXEjL_LI (2).jpg

    3. Drill the rear end of the tray and rivet attach a hinge to then attach to the console lid.
    317gvFcXEjL_LI (3).jpg
    Any thoughts?

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
Interested to see what's been tried.

I like the idea. I do see an issues with the hinge as it might tip all of the items in the tray out but the other ones seem solid

I bought the organizer and tray but haven't installed them yet.

What issue do you have just removing the tray as is?

I bought another barkeeper to make into a tray which is placed on the unmodified one. It's not pretty, but it does work.
I like the idea with the paracord to pull it out easier.

My 2016 Rav 4 has a factory OCD tray built in. There's 2 levers under the arm rest and 1 lever just let's the armrest up exposing the tray, the other lever lifts the tray and armrest up together. And is was about 14 grand cheaper than my Taco.

Not so much an issue or problem, just looking for an easier way to either add stability and ease for removal while driving, or to access the lower areas. All in all the tray is awesome, I just like to tinker and make things my own. I am thinking that I will try the paracord, as it is the least damaging and less permanent.

I still want to know why my SR5 double cab has THIRTEEN different bottle holders. How much beer can you drink at one time?

When I worked for Acura/Honda that was how most vehicles were set up, fabbing or adapting a latch of the hinged idea wouldn't be too bad. I am just not sure how much material i can attach to on the armrest underside for the tray itself...if that makes sense
    s-l225.jpg
    TL/CL Acura
15 and 17 are latches and 16 is the tray attaching to 13/14

I cut mine in half, much better for my needs. I didn't like the full tray as the deeper stuff I needed couldn't be accessed without removing it and I only needed one tray used at all times.

Here's the link to the original Salex thread.

OP, I'm a former Honda and GM tech. I'm in Honda/ Acura interior design now. I noticed the same issues as you with mine.

Thanks I looked at that from your post, nice work. I think tonight or tomorrow I will try the paracord loop, if it is no good I can still cut.

So I finally made up my mind. I took a long road trip and went with the two hole paracord idea before I left:
    20170822_160908.jpg
I am pleased with it after driving 1400 miles with it over two days

Had mine since I bought the truck, never really had any issues with it. I keep all my important stuff in the top shelf, less used stuff below... Change in the square 'cup holder' thing.

Does the paracord loop make it floppy when you pick it up? Seems like I would be the one to spill all the contents around trying to make my life easier

I made the loop tight enough that when I lift it, the tray is very stable, even while driving and shifting (6MT).
Didn't really have issues, I am very pleased with the tray, just wanted an easy way to one hand grab.

My Tundra came with #3 from the factory, it's a gread design, although there are 2 catches at the front. One lifts the top only, other lifts top and tray together. Doing it that way still keeps the items in the top tray somewhat organized. if you just add hinges to the tray, meaning you lift top then lift tray, it means all items in the tray will fall to the back/bottom and stop you opening it. That's why I haven't bothered with hinging the one on the Tacoma.
