That might be a good idea, considering the holiday weekend and desirable campsites are taken quickly.

Yup. That and if I leave from work it'll cut about 45 minutes from my trip.

Here are a few photos of the site I'm trying to snag for us.

There is also a clearing in the trees behind the truck you can not see, a small stream to the left of the campsite looking towards the creek, to the right is another large clearing that use to be a site but they don't allow vehicles to park there any more (sign says no vehicles with a log gate)

Neither of these sites have an official sign which is how I started camping there, I found out it was an overflow site when a group called the Ranger on me because I refused to move for them. Ranger came out and straightened everything up found out it was part of the park and that vets get some Kool perks like first night free and that they have a gun range vets can use free as well. Just haven't made it back out there with work and all but it's the only site ive stayed at out there it's secluded, little to no traffic and just down right peaceful and gorgeous. If we can not secure this site I'll be open for suggestions on another site, if anyone else has camped closer into the park let me know what sites you like. The park also has bathrooms at least at the HQ, they MAY have showers there I don't remember, I just used the creek honestly Lol.

How did the Ranger clear up the situation? The group that tried to force you off ... did they reserve campsite #85 thinking that your overflow site was it?

I've been at that campsite, but it was always occupied. Nice and secluded, and reasonably hard to get to, thus low traffic.

They ended up going to another site, and the ranger showed me where to register and explained all the features to me. It was an overflow site so they sent them there from the office. They actually don't do reservations its first come first serve, I found it by just driving along the roads and there was a pull off with no sign, 85 has a very clearly marked sign. It's actually at the very edge of the park so I had no clue it was considered part of the park at the time. If I hadn't already had everything set up and unpacked I would have moved but I even had my fire going so I was committed lol. I'm thinking it will probably be taken by the time we get up there on a Saturday so I'm open to suggestions for a secondary site.

I really got spoiled by Shamokin, being able to just drive up and if a campsite was clear set up and camp there, no worrying about fighting over spots and what not. I go camping to get away from people not fight with them lol I think there was only one time I was at Shamokin and the campsite we ended up staying at the majority of the time was occupied.

How far away is campsite #85 from your overflow site?

Hopefully @ST3VE can get there on Friday and reserve the site.

It's not this Friday lol this trip is Sept 5th. The overflow site is probably a good 200 yards away from 85. 85 is on the other side of the road deep into the woods, the OF is right on the water also right off of the road.
