As difficult as this may be to believe. I do not even use a cell phone. I have a hand me down iPhone 4 from daughter. I just use the camera, and the WiFi when I am traveling through airports, etc. Looks like I may have to find a hand me down android platform to use.

Do any of you use them with tablets?

I have Dash Command on my iPhone (found some good reviews for iPhones) but I haven't really used it as I bought an Android tablet and put Torque Pro on it. If you go the tablet route I recommend getting one with GPS on it so you can use it for navigation too. IIRC Torque Pro can take some custom gauges for Toyotas.

I really like using a tablet because the bigger screen makes it so much easier to read if you want to see more than one gauge at once, certainly when driving.

You can do that with Torque
It's a custom PID for Torque, there's a thread on here about it.

What adapter do you user with it? I see them ranging from 130.00 for ODBLink MX WiFi to 20.00 for Carista, with several others in the $30-40 range.

@Sandman614 speaks the truth. I just used the info I found on here to setup the custom PID's in Torque pro. Have done it twice now since I have switched phones, no problem either time.

For those that want the PID information there's a thread on here which can be found with a search. TFT2 is the torque converter output and TFT1 is the pan temp.

I use Torque pro as well but look for an app called RealDash. It works on windows, ios, and android.

As I am here to learn, I was very confused with the term PID in this thread.

In my experience in industry, PID is used in industry to mean, A proportional–integral–derivative controller (PID controller or three term controller) is a control loop feedback mechanism widely used in industrial control systems and a variety of other applications requiring continuously modulated control.

This really confused me as I did not think that an ODB app would be able to actually control the functions on the vehicle.

Further research shows that in regard to this post, PID stands for (On-board diagnostics Parameter IDentifications), With some Apps you are able to create a custom "guage" on the screen to display that diagnostic information.

PID is also used in the medical field Pelvic Inflammatory Disease. The details of which we will not discuss here.

It is unfortunate that is our society today, some are so quick to try to degrade someone when is so much more rewarding to simply explain things.

Just FYI, settled on ODB Fusion and Carista Bluetooth scanner. I have not yet explored all of the options available, but so far it is working well.

I use this adapter that's regularly $13 on sale (watch slickdeals). I use it with the app, "Dash" to monitor all my temps and sensors in a nice clear easy to read format.
    https://www.amazon.com/BAFX-Products-Bluetooth-Diagnostic-Scanner/dp/B005NLQAHS

Dash:. See the second screenshot for how the gauge display works.

This and the Torque pro app. Best combo. Fyi. The bafx works with EVERYTHING, some of the cheaper ones do not.
