Of course the techs don't clean trucks.. the dealerships pay people at a lower paygrade to do it. Judging by their advertising it appears they do consider playing off road normal use for these trucks.

I think the point is one of integrity; whoever wrote that up was lacking. When one does a job, especially as a professional, the job needs to be done correctly. If the tech is more worried about not getting the maximum pay than about doing the job properly, he doesn't have the integrity necessary for the job. If he looks at it, and assesses that because of unreasonable or abnormal customer action or use of the vehicle, the job cannot be completed in a reasonable time, then call the customer and explain that. Once started however, that's a commitment, and there is no excuse for not completing the job properly.

Hello AAA, yes my fuel pump died in the freeway middle of traffic. Please send me a tow truck and let the driver know to drop me off at the carwash first prior to heading to the dealership for the recall that almost killed my car full of children. Thanks!!!

Being a former Ford tech I understand the tech's issue. Under warranty I don't know what Toyota pays time wise but back in the day Ford payed about 0.8hrs for an in tank fuel pump on the likes of an Explorer. Because customers had concerns they would always bring it in full. I had my share of fuel showers.

As a Cummins certified tech any warranty work I do on Cummins engines, Cummins pays to pressure wash the engine before doing any warranty work. They are more concerned with worrying about no contamination gets in the motor than paying a half hour for pressure washing.

I'm interpreting this as the technician suspects the tank may be contaminated, because he found pre-existing dirt and mud in the fuel lines after he opened them.

Wouldn't that be another issue of how s truck with no one ever having touched the tank from the factory got dirt in the fuel lines?

Got the truck super muddy. Took it through a wash, the truck was honestly pretty clean it just stuck to the sliders and up in the wheel wells a little.
Unrelated picture, but this is before I took it in.

Contaminated fuel, sabotage, dirt got blown in when you were filling up...

The technician suspected the dirt is from a leak in the tank, but that'll probably cause a CEL and evap code if true. Again, no way to know what the tech really meant unless you speak to him directly without the service writer running interference.

And yet they made no mention of wanting to investigate further, like they did for my radar (they want to re cal, cause I put in a pro grill, radar works great so I'm not recaling) or "uneven tire wear" they wanted to do an alignment.

I'm thinking this is cya for a poor job.

Go talk to the technician directly and get clarification. No one here is going to read minds and do it for you, just peanut gallery.

If you're so convinced then name the dealer and technician here.
