I would check if you have any second hand building supply stores in your area. I have a couple where I live and actually sourced a few of the three panel solid wood doors that are in our house. The only thing is I would have reservations with modifying something that would affect the historic significance of the house. If you do modify the built in closet I would make it so you can easily reverse it if you decide to move.

I just had lowes order me a odd size door. Doors on the shelf were like 67 bucks for the closest size. custom door was only 77$. 10 bucks more and it fits perfectly.

The height might be a problem. But wouldn't hurt to check. I would think about modifying the closet to make the door higher if possible. In this area, people care more about closet space and looks than history. I doubt anybody would fault you for making a 1920's door opening 13 inches taller.

Im interested in what the outcome of this was? Wondering if a closet company like California Closets would be able to make doors for them. I have the same exact setup in my house.

Damn, almost 10 years later. Sorry to be anti-climatic, but I ended up jus using a curtain and a fancy rod, which I think looks much better.
