Yea i know you will need the antenna . The trucks with stock nav/xm has the shark fin antenna on the roof. And thats where both xm and nav antennas are stock. Who did you get your unit from FLtrucks?

I got my unit from fltrucks I heard the shark fins are expensive and I would like to try and stay away from that option. I hope one of those small square antennas would work that i can put on the roof

I wrote this up in another post

The wire that carries the signal is already there. There are two wires plus ground. All of the button press signals from the control pads are fed through the spiral cable assembly to the s8 connector on steering column then to radio.

Option 1 - buy controls with voice button for 12-13. This will set you back almost 300.00 unless you can find a salvage set (I've looked!). The controls are only sold as a complete set (left and right assembly)

Option 2 - buy controls for 2014. Will set you back about the same. This will give you the voice control button with no mods. It will also give you a few extra buttons - "return", "left/right", "enter/ok". This however requires running a 4th wire from the appropriate pin on the 28 pin connector to the s8 connector. Not too difficult if you have wiring diagram, correct pins, and can solder.

In either case you will need to remove center steering wheel pad/airbag. That's about a 10 minute eAsy job.

First this only applies to those replacing a 2013 or 2014 base audio touch screen with a 2014 nav unit NON JBL, however some info may apply elsewhere.

    1. Trucks that did NOT come with sat or nav will NOT have sat, Nav antennas or antenna cables.

2011 and prior the SDARS antenna was a color matched bump about 2" square located on roof. These are available from Toyota in your trucks color (obviously 2011 colors) for about $60. They come with about 4 inches of antenna lead and two holes must be drilled in roof. Use a STEP drill for drillling holes. Other drills will mangle thin sheet metal. You will still need to procure an antenna cable from Toyota. The part numbers for cables like this are hard to track down, and probably expensive. Making your own is not really an option. VAIS tech has some options, but they are for connecting this (or other OEM antennas) to an aftermarket system.

I don't think GPS was an option for 2011. GPS antennas are sometimes located in the dash for OEM. Toyota does this on a few models, and this is the antenna FLTrucks provides if you buy a NAV unit from him. SDARS antennas almost always seem to be located on the roof. Maybe because of the different frequencies involved.

2012 and up trucks have a Shark Fin antenna on roof. This houses both GPS and SDARS antennas. You can buy this antenna, but it will cost you dearly. As much as $600. Same cable problems will be present, actually doubled, because you will need to bring the GPS signal down to the radio as well.

    2. The SDARS tuner some of you have purchased with the nav unit is standard across Toyota's line. The only difference is the cables connecting to the HU, and the mounting brackets. Some Toyotas like Camrys mount this unit in the trunk. You can readily find the tuner on line for about $150-$200, but the connecting harness and antenna will be a problem.

    3. A better option to go with for satellite is something like this:

    http://toyotaofmcdonoughparts.net/p...a-and-scion-xm-satellite-radio-tuner-kit-2013

It comes with the antenna, and plugs right into the factory radio. I don't believe there's any functionality difference, but I don't have the unit. Perhaps the Gracenote album art will not be displayed not sure.

It should be. From the wiring diagrams they appear to be same part.

The S8 connector has the connector for the 4th wire. At some point I'll pull off the Pad and check continuity between the appropriate pin on the Spiral cable connector and the S8 connector just to confirm.

Very good. I too would like to get the voice control button on my 2013. If the 2014 set up would only take one additional wire it might be worth going that route as well.

If I end up doing this, I'll post the info here. I've already run the wire to the S8 connector from the radios r15 28 pin connector.

I'll probably end up purchasing the 2014 controls, and selling my 2013 controls to recoup some of the cost. Optimally, I could find them on salvage or ebay. Tough though.

I won't test the continuity until then, as I only want to remove the assembly once. I know the voice control will work. Actually, I won't need to test, as I'll put the new controls in and the additional left/right enter/ok will work or they won't.

I'm looking for the price online for the 2014 controls. I may ask Jorge at Camelback for a price, as they are not available to joe consumer yet. Best I found for 2013 controls was $286 or something like that. If the 2014 controls are in that range Ok, if they are like some ridiculous $4-$500, I won't be doing this - with the 2014 controls!
