Thank you so much for tagging us and allowing us to engage in this conversation. Our promise with this response is to provide accurate information, to avoid too much bias or motive to solicit the O+ Product.

We sincerely encourage dialogue. However we also want to respect this thread to be a conversation within the community, and therefore we will hold off on responding to comments unless we are tagged or direct messages sent to us on this account. We also welcome and encourage direct correspondence with our brand manager; Feel free to call or text Daniel directly at 714-202-4365

@WaitingOnMyR1T Fully agreed! This was poorly worded on our part. Everything in relation to the launch details is scheduled for the week of Dec 13th (the first production samples arriving at our Anaheim facility Monday 12/14, and Installation scheduled for midweek), so this clearly was a major oversight on our part to use the phrase "next week" rather than the intended date. Thanks for calling us out on this! We will be sending an email to clarify for the rest of the community.

@Viper1092 thank you for being a part of this journey!! We don't take this lightly. Though this is truly the first email we have sent to those who had signed up for updates (we held off till we had an update of substance), we did showcase a prototype JBL Enhancement at TOYOTAFEST in Long Beach, CA (June 1, 2019) and at the time expressed interest in offering that option as-is. The Upgrade at the time was more in line with our other Enhancements (liken to the options we offer for the 4Runner and Tundra with JBL) - We have since reimagined what we were offering to the Tacoma community, and developed a Solution that is a complete heart-transplant: Amplification, Calibrated DSP, Fully integrated Quick-Sync Wiring Harness (retaining all factory functionality), Subwoofer System, and Speaker Options. We can't wait to share all the details!

Assuming the install will be similar to the non-JBL setup, it would be a fairly easy install.

I've heard it's one of the best "drop in" speaker upgrades, which is why I'm interested in it. I don't have the time to find what plays well with the OEM system.

Hopefully this can resolve the issues with the JBL system. IMO the most annoying part of the 'premium' JBL sound system is when the amp goes into 'limp mode' where volume is reduced and sound quality becomes non-existent. Biggest gripe with the truck for me, it has been driving me up a wall as someone who enjoys listening to my music at higher levels for sustained periods of time. Having that amp quit after less than an hour is ridiculous...

I literally just spec'd out a replacement for my JBL system. If this gets rid of the ridiculous stock sub amp and sub and allows me to re-utilize that space, I'll be a happy camper. I was going to use a TT box behind the driver side rear seat and mount the amp under the seat. Even if it allows me to retain the existing storage space, but is a direct replacement for everything, I am ok with that as well depending on price. Being able to plug and play is a huge draw for me. I abhor cutting or splicing stock wires if I don't have to.

it includes all plug & play, 6 speakers, sub woofer and 360 watt amp...took about 6-8 hours to install but well worth it and Dan at OEM was a huge help, their service is great..

Sounds like it's going to replace everything except the headunit. Probably for the best but kind of a shame...people just need to not buy the JBL spec'd Tacoma's.

Fwiw, I've had the full dual subwoofer system for years now and it's perfect. Highly recommended.

Yeah, my 2017 didn't have JBL, but my 2020 does. Was it an improvement? Absolutely. But it still lacks and it's hardly an upgrade when other OEM upgrade options for speakers blows Toyota's out of the water.
I've seen people mention that, but I have yet to come across that issue. Either my music doesn't push it as hard or something changed between our MY's.

I had 2016 w/premium and it sounded way better than my new 2021. Same source of music and there is big difference, specifically in the subwoofer.. They changed something in the package between 2016 and 2021.. The 2016 was never a superior Audio, but it was pretty decent sounding at least had me content. The 2021 makes me feeling like i have to do something

I will say after doing sound deadening and then soundproofing over the top on all 4 doors, the back wall, under the sub and storage compartments, the stock system sounds much better but still not great! Cant wait for this.

Was just thinking today about how much I wished this JBL setup wasn’t such a letdown. First time I’m ever had a vehicle with upgraded sound system...

so yeah...I’m kind of excited now.

So this is a new upgraded after market JBL system offered by Toyota? Or to be offered in new trucks going forward? I am close to pulling the trigger on a TRD OR and am really on the fence about purchasing the Premium package which is typically bundled with the Advanced Technology package for a total of $5,900. I am really only interested in the heated leather seats, the JBL sound system (so I thought) and the color coordinated rear bumper. There are a lot of features in that $5,900 bundle that I could really care a less about (moon roof, multiple cameras, etc). If you guys are saying that the JBL system in the Premium package is not that good, I should definitely go with the base TRD OR and upgrade to heated seats, superior stereo and alter the rear bumper myself! Is the JBL system in the current Premium package really sub par? I am not a critical music listener, but I don't want to fork out $5,900 for a bundle of unnecessary shit to include a sub standard sound system. Thanks in advance for your response!

There are no changes for the sound system at all between the model years. The only difference was the headunit between the 16-19 trucks and the 20+ trucks. They added carplay and increased the screen size of the radio. They also moved/updated the location of the microphone in the truck. Other than that the sound systems remained the same to my knowledge. If you feel that the base OR will serve your purpose than by all means go for it. I wanted some of the other premium features like the moon-roof and for my yea dual-zone climate was part of the deal as well. OEM+ offers packages that are plug-n-play for the basic sound system already. Meaning you could get your base model add their already well reviewed system, heated seats, perhaps some clazzio seat covers, why not just get a steal bumper while you're at it? Surely the sum total of those mods is less than the 5900 for the premium package. Plus you can take any change from that and give the rest to Meso Customs. PS dont forget the TRD pro grill all the cool kids are doing it lol
