I think they’ll have an upgrade for the speaker and maybe a dual option too.

I am going to want the system but no way will attempt install myself. I hope they set up local installers in the large metro-areas like mine, Phoenix. Heck, I'll travel a few hundred miles for an install if necessary.

Any audio shop could install it. It's all plug and play. Just have to take apart some of the interior to run wires around which any audio shop will be extremely familiar with. No idea what a fair price for labor is though...I'd wager it takes most people unfamiliar with interior disassembly quite a awhile (better part of a day) but it shouldn't take a professional audio shop that long. Maybe 4 hours?

I just hope there are some budget friendly options (under $1k).

I'm cool with the JBL+ system, however I'm still interested to learn more info.

If I need to run wires then to me that's not plug and play, or am I missing something?

Excuse my lack of knowledge with this system but is this for non-factory amp’d / sub systems or a replacement to factory amped and sub system?

That's fair I suppose. I'll clarify what I meant by "running wires". The kits come with all the wires and harnesses ready to be plugged in. You still have to disassemble the interior and "run" the wires though. The only wires you don't have to run are the tweeter and mid wires, those are re-used from factory. You will have to run the following:

    1) power wire from battery to amp
    2) wire bundle from headunit to amp
    3) wire bundle from amp to sub box

This is for the already existing kits anyway. Not sure what the JBL replacement system will entail but it sounds like it will be similar.

Here's the install video. Shows you exactly what's required.

I guess it would make more sense to call it a "kit" over "plug and play". Or a combination of both.

The install is straight forward and has good instructions. I think there are some good install videos on YouTube as well.

Yeah, I was hoping it was around $1.5k, at this price I'll pass on it. May reconsider down the road but I doubt it. My music and Audiobooks sound good enough.

I've been waiting since Mar when I bought my taco... was expecting 15- maybe 18 with a dual sub...
2600 and in reality 32+ once the preorder bonus wears off. You could gut it and get a HU thrown in at a local install shop for 3200.
Such a sad xmas. Glad to know it's time to move on finally and stop waiting.

$2,400 early adopter pricing? WOW! $3,000 normal pricing? Double WOW! Was hoping it was going to be around 2k tops. Can’t spend that much just for speakers and amps. You can start with a TACOMA specific JL Audio Stealth box and buy speakers and amps to match your preferences for less than that. Might not be plug and play but will certainly be better quality.

I think they missed the boat on this one.

Unfortunately I splurged on everyone else this Christmas. The absolute earliest I can get in would be the 2nd tier or final price (if no tier 2). Guess I'll see what that entails.
