You can use a 27F in your truck if you get the battery tray from a 2nd Gen with tow package.

I didn't want any hassle from Toyota with reimbursement and am not interested in the extra size and weight of a larger battery since I'm not running anything extra.

I'm pretty sure my last Tacoma came with a 27f and I replaced it with a Sears Diehard Platinum 31m. Considering my lack of off-roading I was extra surprised how the 31m destroyed its mount, stretched the metal underneath the mount, and how the top of the battery cracked. It was unnecessarily heavy for my application and its position in the 09 Tacoma.

If I do need more battery I cannot think of a better solution than mounting an extra one on the passenger side due to my past experience.

I didnt even bother with the factory battery. A week in I bought a Northstar AGM and recycled the original.

I'm honestly impressed with those of you still running the OEM battery.

I think shakerhood is on to something with the 27f. If I wasn't jaded from my last battery upgrade and wanting to help along the Toyota reimbursement I would have gone a little larger.

I wonder if the larger battery stands up to extreme temperature variations better? The larger OEM battery in my 09 Tacoma lasted 5 years and could have lasted a little longer I think. I replaced it in 2014 as a precaution at the beginning of summer when it was taking longer to crank.

I'm also sure that Toyota has run the numbers and replacing batteries under warranty in sales areas with extreme temperatures is probably much cheaper than specifying a better battery for all trucks. I just wish that they would offer an AGM, better tires, and carpet delete under a sub-option package when you buy an Off-Road. There has to be enough of a want/desire for these options to justify it as a package upgrade.

It was pointless to post that last part other than the thought that Toyota peruses this forum.
