Cooler weather just hit the south and my battery is acting up, can't get my engine to crank so it's time for a new battery. 2018 Sport with 67k miles.

I just had to replace my duals with new batteries. 2018 Off-Road with 30k miles. I never had issues until I started working from home, doesn't get driven enough to make up for the parasitic drain that I haven't located, somewhere in the mess of additions I have added.

I have a 2017 Tacoma Sport and I just replaced my OEM Battery today that came with the truck originally and i have 142,000km on it. I bought an Interstate MTP-24F. The OEM battery would have been going into its 6th winter. Although it wasn't giving me any outward signs of weakening , going into winter #6 the odds were against me it wasn't going to give me trouble at really cold temps we can get here. So i Figured its best just to replace before i get left somewhere and regretting trying to stretch it out another year.

My first one lasted only about 10 months. Went back to the dealer and my second battery lasted 1 week. They said they prob gave me another bad battery and the third has lasted for 4 years. I was worried but it has turned out fine for me. Probably about time to change it out.

I just replaced my OEM battery at 49 months. Truck wasn't started for a week and wouldn't start without a jump so I just went ahead and replaced it. Replaced with DieHard Platinum (4 yr warranty). Batteries are expensive now! Holy crap...

It depends on where you live, and the weather conditions in the summer and more importantly, the winter. When I lived in NC, because it freezes in the winter, etc, my car batteries usually lasted three years. I could almost time it out as to when they were about to die out! Then, I moved to CA back in 1991, and live in an area where it doesn't freeze and rarely gets above 75degrees. Since being here, my batteries last 7-8 years. I have a 2019 TRD Sport that will be 4 years old next April 2023, and I am still on the OEM battery, and really, I expect to be, for another several years.

One reason why batteries aren’t lasting nowhere near as long as they used to in years past is because they’re no longer using virgin lead, they use recycled thinner lead. 10 years ago it wasn’t uncommon at all to see vehicles made in the late 90s/early 00s to have oem batteries last 10 years.

here are pics of battery cores taken in at the advance near me.

Batteries made in the last 5 years only last 2-3 years max. Batteries made 10 years ago lasting 10 years and more.

I can relate. My truck is a 2021 that I bought in May of last year and just turned over 7,600 miles. My drives average 7-8 miles, all around town stuff. Between that and the FL heat I'm expecting to have to replace every 2-3 years. So far it's been ok and it comes up fine on my batter tester on load tests but always reads around 70% charge.

Curious - Why should I pay $100 more for a DieHard Johnson Controls then a EverStart Johnson Controls 24F with the same specs ? Excuse me if this has been answered already please give me a link. Thanks.

some tacomas can act wacky if they have a bad batt while they are running
