Been looking at future options myself just because. My battery is still the OEM battery from 2017. Seems like it still works just as good as day one.

I think I changed the battery maybe 3 times so far in my 1997 Taco over the course of 250k miles of normal urban driving. The most recent replacement was only because the OEM alternator was wigging out and not charging as it should and basically caused us to prematurely kill the battery.

My oem battery lasted 3 years with a lot of off-road trips under it. I started feeling it was taking longer to start after only about 2 1/2 years too and after three years I didn’t want to wait for it to leave me hanging and just got a Diehard AGM. My truck is only a weekend car too, so not sure if not starting it as often as a daily driver contributed to anything. I honestly think the vibrations from off-roading is what wore the oem one down super quick. My previous trucks I always ran AGM batteries and would get about 5 years out of them, so hoping this battery is similar in quality. If you do a lot of wheeling, I recommend considering an AGM battery.

You sure about that? Everything I read was x2 was rebranded North Star, never once odyssey was mentioned unless is was about a declining quality

PNW weather is good for batteries. All my previous cars had a battery replaced after 7 or so years. My 2017 is doing well.

Googling around tells me that Enersys makes Nothstar, Odyssey, and X2.

I have an AGM from Batteries Plus as well.

I think I got this from here…. But this is a pretty good watch for batteries: https://youtu.be/h7rTcBanpMk

TLDW: Walmart for cost and performance.

AAA interstate battery, 149 installed, plus 6 year warranty, the OEM went at the 5 year mark, advanced auto parts batteries are fine.

Just curious why Walmart sells battery much cheaper than other Stores if they both made by Johnson Controls with the same warranty, is there any quality difference? Walmart offers free installations too.

Walmart negotiates volume pricing pretty hard with their suppliers, they have that power!

5 years! Most i've gotten out of the last 3 toyota batteries is between 2-3 (2 camry's and taco) in FL. Camrys both died like clock work at 2yr mark. No warning...nothing. Just go to leave for work and .... she dead.

I went to batteries plus and put a x2 AGM battery (SLI24FAGMDP) in there on the taco this time. It has at least outlasted the oem already.

Im guessing northstar as the marine battery i use for boat has different dimensions than the equivelant odyssey version. Was looking to get x2 as the odyssey's are hard to get local but i have real tight fitting space and didnt want to chance it and get stuck modding since the dimensions are slightly different.

My battery lasted from Aug 2016 until Jan 2024. I got my replacement from Napa. You can buy online and get some coupon codes to save some money.

I have been using DEKA for many years in both my personal vehicles & for work.
For my personal vehicles I really can't recall having one fail, I have sold vehicles with a 5-7 year old battery working fine.

At work the shortest lived ones went in forklifts which is about the toughest service possible for a battery.
They are incredibly hard riding and might get started 100 times a day yet only ran for a minute or two each start - perpetual short trip driving along with operators who could remember to turn the lights on but not off. :annoyed:

In that service they would generally last 3-4 years and abruptly fail.

Bought my Tacoma new in December of ‘17 and it is still rocking the original battery. When it finally gives up the ghost, I’ll be replacing it with an EverStart Maxx from Wal-Mart. I’ve had great experiences with these batteries in other vehicles & toys.

I have noticed in the past that batteries will start to crank slow and you kinda tell it’s reaching its end. But lately I’ve seen where the battery seems fine and then is stone dead with no warning. I think it’s when the cells short out. Also the last battery I got from oriellys parts store they checked it before leaving the store and it was dead. They went through three more before giving a good battery.

All batteries seem hit-and-miss now. Find an acceptable price and warranty/guarantee that comes with it. Then be done and sleep easy.

but please do it right now. 5 years old is old
