I am heading off on a two week hunting trip in the ANF in Pa. I took the bed mat out to clean under it and found that the bed was in great condition and is sprayed with a fairly rough material.

If I am not hauling things to scratch and scrape the bed, and if the bed is sprayed with a rough surface to prevent slippage, is there any reason I shouldn't sell it?

Yes, mat, sorry. The spray in there does that just fine so I may be selling it.

Your bed is sprayed? with what? Our beds are Composite, fiberglass plastic stuff. They're usually pretty slick, which is why people like the OEM rubber mat.

Ice skaters do not need the skates to perform in the bed on that coating.

Getting blood out of the rubber mat may be difficult, but that is the only reason you might hunt without it.

Well sheeeit! It is plastic or fiberglass, looks like plastic. But it has a rough coat that things won't slide on.

@RichochetRabbit That's a good point. I will leave it out for this trip.

I'm still curious on your bed... i've heard of people spraying them. Cause normally they are pretty darn slick. I've never heard of anyone ever saying that an OEM bed is grippy in the least.

Some folks don't realize it's not a drop in bed liner though, so don't feel bad. It's pretty common for folks to not know there isn't a regular metal bed under there.

A friend of mine is a big Ram truck guy. When I first got my Tacoma he could not believe the entire bed was composite and he crawled underneath to look.

Here is a great test. Put a metal toolbox on your composite bed and drive around your town. At the end of your drive you know if you should keep your bed mat or sell it.

    clang-clang ... two bells ... clang-clang-clang ... three bells ...

Make the object low-lying if you have the plastic-cover bed lights at the back.

Keep the rubber bed mat. The rough texture of the plastic bed won't keep stuff from sliding around.

I'm thinking the OP bought used, and his bed was sprayed before he took ownership.
Surely no one could mistake a factory bed for anything, but slippery af.

Here here. Slippery AF is dead nuts accurate. Oh and if you spill anything oily on it good luck.

Not even sure why u would consider getting rid of it ? It’s not like it takes up space . Best thing I have ever purchased for the truck .

As it turns out someone did spray a rough coating but it is worn/slippery at the back. Therefore, I will be keeping the mat.

My OEM bed mat is normally always in the bed mostly to keep things from sliding around and crashing into the front bed wall or tailgate on stops/starts. It's also way easier on the knees when you need to crawl around back there arranging stuff. If I make a run for bulk mulch, sand etc., or fill the bed with junk, brush, or firewood, I remove the mat or roll it up. I would definitely remove it before hunting or putting greasy or oily things on it, such as pick-n-pull car parts or a full oil change drain pan. (all of the openings seal good, but I don't trust it.) If I was dropping heavy rocks, cinder blocks or pavers etc. in it, the mat would be in place.

The composite truck bed (2014) is in great shape. Some scratches but no divots or other damage.

Just in case people like the mat but not the price ... Tractor Supply Company "stall mat", $50. 4 ft x 6 ft ... cut side for the wheel-wells.
